There is absolutely no way that the highway 99 drive is scenic. Its a commuter road only and NOT scenic. The route through the Sierras is far more scenic and then down Highway 395. The problem is just the snow. And there is no way to tell you if you're ok or not on a future date. For example, we were up there this week-end and planned to drive home on Sunday. 2 feet of snow and we stayed a day longer and drove home the next day. Easy drive on highway 80.
