If you’re talking about the voltage produced by the bulb, that’s another ballgame. Like regular fluorescent lamps, CFL’s require ballasts, which is housed inside the base of the bulb. The ballast delivers a high-voltage, high-frequency electrical current to the tube to excite the gases within it . The ballast voltage can range anywhere from 200 volts to more than 600 volts. Not enough to kill you since the current is relatively small, although enough to knock you on your behind.
