We are getting our kitchen through Howdens. They do have to be bought through your builders account, yes, but our builder is not taking a cut, we are getting the full value of his discount. They do seem as good quality as comparable mass-market kitchens.

Howdens supplied the units for Schreiber/Hygena at MFI, the units were exactly the same. Builders like Howdens because they can go the the trade suppliers for each item, and not have no order it all at once if you change your mind about anything. ALso if anything is faulty, really easy to exchange. We have Howdens kitchen in Oak and after 4 years it still looks brand new.
Is Howdens frame ok?
Our experience with Howdens (from a builder/carpentry company perspective) is that the actual Howdens frames are ok - but DH has replaced countless numbers of fronts. The surface veneers tend to peel like a false fingernail (his explaination not mine!) He said it's as though they've got wet or damp and peeled back. Dead impressed with JL though and much to his surprise IKEA. No experience ourselves although I'd bite your arm of for one of the JL kitchens I've just seen
Is Ikea good for money?
Ikea are pretty good for the money. Most companies are now doing decent kitchens even Wickes and Homebase. It’s not that they are “bad” but that others have got considerably “better”. Because they are aimed at “trade”, you won’t get the guarantees that you will get with Ikea. (you won’t with ANY of the others tbh!)
Is Howdens good?
Howdens are OK, but nothing special. .quality similar to B+Q (not nearly as rubish to deal with though), maybe not as good as IKEA as they use good quality drawers and hinges these days. IKEA’s idiosynchrasies still would annoy me too much to have in my own kitchen.

Howden's quality is no better than B&Q in that quite often the carcases are not square, they are edge-banded with 0.8mm wafer thin melamine. This means the front edges of the carcases are easily damaged when you put away saucepans,glass dishes etc. DIY Kitchens use 2.5mm ABS plastic edge-bandings which are far more hard-wearing.
Is DIY kitchens better than online?
DIY Kitchens online are a better product ,better service and far better prices. The only downside is they won't plan the kitchen for you but there is free software on their website to help you plan and order your own kitchen. Anyone in the trade with some knowledge should be capable of planning your kitchen. 0.
Is Franke sinks cheap?
The Franke sinks they sell are cheap and ok but you get what you pay for and the same goes for their taps. Their appliances (lamona) are rubbish so if you go for Howdens source your own white goods. Their "designers" are not trained in any way other than to use a very simple PC programme to plan kitchens.
Is Tesco Value bad?
Is Tesco Value that bad? No its not. You can eat it. It wont kill you. It wont harm you. As long as you dont pay M&S prices for it or expect it to be fine quality you wont go wrong.
