What happens if you remove knock sensor?
This gives you the best engine power and fuel mileage. If the knock sensor is not working then the engine could start pinging without the computer being able to detect it. This pinging can cause the combustion process to burn or blow holes in the pistons.
Can I run engine without a knock sensor?
Yes, it does. When knock sensor doesn't work, meaning no signal is fed to the engine computer, the engine will use the standard advance curve according to the mode the engine is running. It may not do anything at off-idle situations, but at full power acceleration, it may cause engine damage.
What happens if you drive with a bad knock sensor?
A bad knock sensor may also not let the engine accelerate properly while driving on the highway, and cause the vehicle to lose fuel mileage. If you notice these things happening, you should have a certified mechanic from YourMechanic inspect why the car is slow to accelerate.

The pinging can cause severe issues like blowing holes in the Piston or even cause the combustion process to burn. If a knock sensor goes completely bad, you'll experience loss of fuel mileage, hesitation, and reduced power.
Can knock sensor cause rough idle?
A knock sensor causing engine shaking or rough idle often results in a service engine light or code warning. The driver can check against factory code lists for that particular vehicle to confirm the cause, then inspect the knock sensor for proper resistance, replacing it if necessary.
Can you drive without NOX sensor?
Of course, you can drive with a bad Nox sensor. However, I do not recommend it. Driving with a faulty Nox sensor for an extended period will cause several drivability issues. It may cause poor engine power output, erratic idling, sudden engine misfire, and bad gas mileage.

A P0325 code is a very serious engine code. If you leave a P0325 engine code unrepaired and continue to drive your vehicle, the problem will worsen. Furthermore, you can expect that the code to have adverse effects on your vehicle's performance.
How does a knock sensor work?
The knock sensor is mounted directly on the crankcase and measures the structure-borne noise using a piezoelectric measuring element. The sensor discerns knocking by its higher sound frequencies. If the sensor reports knocking, the ECU adjusts the ignition timing accordingly.
How does Honda knock sensor work?
Any knock to an engine manifests as a small vibration that is detected by the knock sensor. This sensor works by changing the vibration to an electrical signal, which is then transmitted to the computer controlling the ignition system.
Bad Knock Sensor: Common Symptoms and Testing Procedure
The knock sensor detects abnormal combustion, known as spark knock, inside of the engine. Common causes of spark knock include low octane fuel, overly advanced ignition timing, abnormally high engine operating temperatures, and carbon buildup inside the engine’s combustion chambers.. If left unchecked, spark knock can cause costly internal engine damage.
how will car run with no knock sensor?
My 1995 ka24de swap had a broken knock sensor well the plastic as well as the wire. Would this do something like a bad o2 sensor? Will it set the timing way back and run rich? My wiring harness is from a 1992 so it is obd1. Car is running rich different injectors or regulator didn't change it. New fuel filter and o2 as well.
Re: how will car run with no knock sensor? (Unstock240)
My car ran rough at idle when my knock sensor was disconnected. I believe the cars ECU goes into a safe mode when the knock sensor is not connected and adjusts the cars air fuel ratios and timing.
Re: how will car run with no knock sensor? (Unstock240)
It will run fine, you might just loose a little power since the ecu may not allow as much timing advance. I know this is true for 300z's.It won't even throw the check engine light. But if you pull codes from the ecu, it will come up.
Re: how will car run with no knock sensor? (steve s14)
woah! thats totally wrong... what the knock sensor is supposed to do is retard the timing when it notices a knock in order to get rid of it... it can retard it up to 12 degrees. it will only NOT throw a code if it senses a knock and it does its job of retarding the timing... but if it is bad.. like mine is now, it WILL throw a code...

Re: how will car run with no knock sensor? (steve s14)
My car does run rough when I first start it up. I have to hold the gas for about 30secs then it will idle fine, if not it will die but runs decent for bad blowby. Thanks for the help everyone, I will get one eventually. I'm letting the car sit and going to rebuild it since the rings aren't doing well.
Re: how will car run with no knock sensor? (Unstock240)
I've been running no knock sensor for over a year lol. It's hard to tell if it makes any difference because my 240 has so many underlying problems. Everyone I've talked to says the only time that sensor changes anything is when it gets a signal that your engine is knocking. Otherwise, no problem.
What happens when a knock sensor is compromised?
When the knock sensor function is compromised, you can expect a lot of drawbacks to happen , one of which is an underperforming engine. That said, it helps to know common bad knock sensor symptoms. As mentioned, if you feel the engine isn’t accelerating as smooth as before, there’s a good chance your knock sensor has already conked out.
Where is the knock sensor located?
Located on the cylinder head, intake manifold, or engine block, the knock sensor functions as an ear to your car’s computer, picking up unusual vibrations caused by engine detonation.
What does it mean when your check engine light turns on?
When this happens, the Check Engine Light usually turns on—this is a signal you can’t miss. Other indications include loud knocking sounds, reduced fuel economy, and a damaged engine.

How to tell if an engine is detonating?
Engine shaking. If the sensor and control system in the engine are working properly, this phenomenon should not occur. The appearance of detonation can be indirectly determined by the metallic sound coming from the running engine (knocking of the fingers). Excessive shaking and jerking while the engine is running is the first way to determine the detonation sensor malfunction.
Why is my knock sensor out of range?
Why? It’s all caused by sounds and vibrations which the detonation sensor may perceive as fuel detonation and incorrectly adjusted ignition angle .
How does the voltage supplied by the sensor to the ECU through the terminals of the connector work?
The voltage supplied by the sensor to the ECU through the terminals of the connector is processed electronically and then the conclusion is made whether there is detonation in the engine, and, accordingly, whether the ignition advance angle needs to be corrected to help eliminate it. The correction takes place until the detonation is stopped by the joint efforts of the knock sensor and the ECU, after which the sensor again, as it were, falls asleep.
