Apr 08, 2020 · There is no minimum thickness for Bondo, but there is absolutely a maximum. You do not want to apply body filler to anything that is thicker than about a 1/4”. That does not mean it can't be done, but the repair will not last as long. Similarly, does acetone remove Bondo? Acetone will remove at least some fabric along with the embedded Bondo.

Also sounds like you're confusing curing and drying, filler doesn't dry so thinning it won't affect the cure time, or rather it will but if it does then you've thinned it too much and weakened the filler.

they make something for that purpose called plastic honey, or another trick is to add fiberglass resin without the hardner, mix resin and filler together then filler hardner.

Fiberglass resin works great in filler. Makes it smoother and spreads easier.

You can mix it with the same brand of Glazing filler. Makes a nice smooth filler. I wouldn't use old dried up filler on a project I cared about. It's not that expensive.

Filler and glass resin are both polyester products. I think the right way to thin glass resin is with MEK,but I would be nervous that thinning filler with it might cause excessive shrinkage and the filler would crack off or be too hard later on down the road.

I have used 3M Acryl Blue Glazing Putty for years, and switched to their Acryl White Glazing Putty when they discontinued the blue stuff. It comes in LARGE tubes, so I use empty Testors cement bottles, and squeeze out enough to fill the jar 1/2 to 3/4 of the way up. The plastic insert (minus the brush) helps seal out air.
