was thinking of making a bowl from old records.............I know you oldies are yelling nooooo but I figure I can mess with polka Christmas specials and songs from monks from around the world I have several toobs of liquid nails and was wondering if I can use it for gluing records together and then mount it to my lathe for turning.

Tpt life

Why not attempt a heat fuse of vinyl to vinyl? Second thought, is there a solvent that would weld the discs chemically? The only reason I would even entertain the LN is if you want the off color striations. I would certainly not glue any more than one joint without thorough testing.

wdwerker

If you are going to glue records together and then turn it look into the most rigid glue that is compatible with the vinyl. Liquid nails would take forever to dry and then it would still be flexible. I would look for country and western albums, Slim Whitman and maybe some early rap albums.....

duckkisser

there is a glue for vinyl but its small toobs and expensive. maybe pvc glue then I could have different colored layers.

wdwerker

PVC stands for Polyvinyl chloride so that might work. Do a test with some 45's first maybe ? Would think that having a good plan to clamp it up without it sliding out of shape would be a good idea. Maybe a waxed mandrel up the middle then add some offset pieces to the bottom in a second glue up.

duckkisser

I have the records already......I like the idea of the mandrel if nothing more to keep them strait. I have two large pieces of mdf that I plan on clamping it in-between. I had thought to get the purple pvc glue then I would have black/purple stripes all the way around my bowl.

wdwerker

You do not have a miter saw? You could at least glue a block of wood as a base to cover the hole and give you someplace to screw a faceplate.
