Can copper pipe be fitted straight into a Speedfit connector?

What are Speedfit® pipes?
SPEEDFIT® pipes are ideal for retro fitting bathroom items such as concealed showers as the pipes can be hidden much more easily than copper. Note: It should be noted that these types of fittings should not be used with chrome plated pipes.
Should I use copper or Speedfit barrier pipe under walls?
Normally I would stick to copper, being the old fashioned type, but on this occasion, needing to connect a long run under walls and through joists, I used speedfit barrier pipe, connecting to copper pipe with speedfit fittings.
Can I use Speedfit® for central heating?
SPEEDFIT® is interchangeable with copper so any run that is to be visible can simply be carried on in neat copper plumbing with soldered joints. The performance specifications are within the guidelines of normal domestic activities and this includes central heating.
Do Speedfit fittings work on copper?

Can you use plastic push fittings on copper pipe?
Originally developed to be used with plastic pipe systems, push-fit joints are a good way of joining copper pipes too (although they can't be used with stainless steel or chrome-plated copper pipe). It's important that your pipe ends are cut cleanly, so make sure you use a pipe cutter rather than a hacksaw.

One common method is to solder a female threaded fitting onto the copper pipe, screw in a male threaded plastic fitting and finish up by gluing plastic pipe to the plastic fitting. Can you mix plastic and metal plumbing?
To successfully connect plastic and metal pipes, you need threaded connections. The plastic male thread must connect to the metal female thread. If you try to connect it the opposite way – a plastic female to metal male – then the connection will ultimately break or leak.
Is 15mm the same as 1 2 inch?
1/2" pipe refers to the internal diameter, 15mm pipe is the external diameter... In my experience they are so similar that you can even use solder fittings without a worry, so using 15mm olives on 12" pipe isn't a problem.

So that's an elbow joint with a copper tube and speaker it fitting to release.
Can you use compression fittings on Speedfit pipe?
Compression fittings with a short tube stop depth should not be used with Speedfit pipes. Use a 'TSM' insert and follow the instructions of the compression fitting manufacturer when connecting to plastic pipework.

Do you need inserts for copper pipe push fit?
No you do not use pipe inserts whilst using push fit on copper, but make sure you when using plastic barrier pipe, the best ones to use are the super seals.
Do push fittings leak?
When leaks do happen, it's almost always because of one, or a combination of the following: The pipe isn't cut properly. The insert isn't pushed all the way in. The pipe isn't fully connected to the fitting.

The loose one will be fine, or better still just leave it out cos it doesn't need one. It's a copper pipe.

You dont need the inserts in copper pipe... Just make sure you cut the copper straight and de-burr the ends...

It sounds like you didn't have the fitting pushed fully home, I strongly suggest that you turn off the water, open the taps to release the pressure and double check that you have pushed all your fittings fully home. If you are in any doubt, do it now and don't leave it to chance. I find that the end stops are hardest to push on fully BTW.

The inserts are not designed to be inserted into copper, different wall thickness, therefore could cause leaks ... They are designed to be a tight fit on the inside of the speedfit pipe.. They will be loose in a copper pipe..

With sincerest respect Saltire, how can the presence of a redundant insert in a copper pipe cause the fitting to leak? It would only serve to stop the pipe being pushed fully home by a few mm but the pipe should still be well past the main seal in the fitting.

I agree it is important the pipe be fully inserted, but something that shouldn't be, and doesn't fit properly, shouldn't be there...

Sure - reason being that it would do absolutely nothing. Not cause a leak, not stop a leak...
Why use copper pipe for gravity?
Using copper pipe also helps to maintain full bore on a gravity system , whereas using speedfit fittings on plastic pipe requires an insert, which possibly reduces flow. Problems started to appear after a year or so, due to verdigris building up on the copper pipe inside the fitting, causing the fitting to leak.
What is a speedfit grab ring?
Speedfit uses a metal teeth grap ring, as does other push fit brands. The main body of the grab ring might be plastic on many fittings, including Speedfit, but the built in teeth for to grab into the pipe are metal - some sort of stainless steel. It reacts with the copper pipe.
Can push fit plastic pipes burst?
The more time that passes, the more proof there is of increasing problems with any push fit and also plastic pipes (although plastic pipes problems are another subject). Another obvious inferior product is standard flexies, which it has been realised can burst and are now said to have risk of bacteria growth.
Why use Speedfit fittings?
Because the pipes and fittings are plastic there is no scale build up and the elasticity of the pipe greatly reduces the likelihood of pipes bursting in freezing conditions although they should certainly still be lagged . The pipes are metal free and non toxic and being able to use long lengths ...
How to disconnect a pipe?
Disconnecting a fitting is as easy, if not easier, than connecting up. Each of the two types has a slightly different process: 1 Standard Fittings: Simply push the collet down squarely until it touches the main body of the fitting. This will release the gripping mechanism and allow you to gently pull the pipe out 2 Twist Lock Fittings: Unscrew the cap so that it is loose and then push down on the collet with equal force all the way around to that it depresses squarely until it touches the body of the fitting and then gently pull the pipe out
What is a pipe insert?
A: A short length of pipe showing a pipe insert at each end. Pipe inserts must be used every time a joint is effected. The insert gives additional strength to the end of the pipe as it is clamped between the teeth of the fittings. The image above shows how a pipe insert works (titled: "Insert for pipe ends")
What happens if you push a pipe with a rough end?
If you push a pipe with a rough end into one of these fitting the burrs may damage the O ring which will lead to a leak. Do not use damaged or scuff pipes. Do not push your fingers into any fitting as the teeth may cut you. Use pipe cutters when cutting plastic pipe.
How to make a water tight joint?
To make a water tight joint using SPEEDFIT® the first job is to cut your plastic pipe to the correct length and ensure the end you will be inserting in to the fitting is square. As stated, don’t be tempted to use a hacksaw, use a pair of plastic pipe cutters (as seen below).
Can a plumber make a run of pipework?
It is not ideal in places where it can be seen because even the best plumber in the world cannot make a run of this type of pipework, complete with fittings, look neat. The pipe does tend to curl and bow a little and the bends etc…. are a little awkward.
