So Many Oils, So Little Time
Not all oils are created equal. In fact, no one oil can be used for all things; instead, each has its distinct place in the kitchen. Keep these basic categories in mind when you're cooking:
How To: Storing and Heating Oil
Where should I store oil in my kitchen? Unfortunately, oils aren't like wine; they don't improve with age. Heat and light can damage oils, particularly polyunsaturated ones, so keep them in the refrigerator to avoid rancidity.
To Refine or Not to Refine?
Some oils are refined to make them more stable and suitable for high temperature cooking. Keep in mind, though, that the process removes most of the flavor, color and nutrients from the oils, too. Forgive me if this has been asked already. Is MCT Oil allowed on the whole30 diet? Specifically I'm interested to try "Brain Octane" an MCT oil made by Dave Asprey, it's purely Caprylic Acid. Thanks!! Jon
jmcbn
Yes, this is fine - although if you're planning on drinking BPC this should NOT replace any of your meals, and your butter obviously needs to be clarified.
jonnyb27
ok thanks, i'd be using it as a supplement to see if it helps with a neuro- inflammatory issue i have. so probably just taking a tablespoon or teaspoon of it right off the spoon at some point in the day, or mixing it with tea. so it wouldn't replace any of my meals, it would be separate from meals basically as a supplement.
Tom Denham
You really owe it to yourself not to add a new supplement while doing the Whole30. If you improve, you won't know if the credit belongs to the Whole30 or the supplement. The risk is that you credit the supplement and keep taking it when it is not the reason you start doing better.
