Shouldn't be a problem. The computer will adjust for anything up to 85% ethanol. Most regular gas has about 10% or more ethanol in it to begin with, and mixing the two will only result in an ethanol content somewhere between 10% and 85%.Jan 27, 2017

What is the best octane gas?

  • Regular (the lowest octane fuel–generally 87)
  • Midgrade (the middle range octane fuel–generally 89–90)
  • Premium (the highest octane fuel–generally 91–94)

Can you mix regular and premium gas?

While most cars use regular gasoline, a special few call for premium gas. Most people aren’t really clear on the difference, and fuel shortages sometimes leave us no choice but to mix regular and premium. Is that okay? As it turns out, yes! Mixing regular and premium creates a mid-octane fuel like the gas stations sell as either 89 or 91 octane.

What happens when you mix gasoline of different octanes?

Yes. You will not harm your car by mixing different octane grades of the same gasoline providing your car’s engine is designed to run on less than 89 octane fuel and you are not using E85 in a non-E85 compatible engine. 50% 87 octane gas mixed with 50% 89 octane gas makes 88 octane gas.

Can I use E85 gas?

In the United States, policies encourage gas stations to sell gasoline with more ethanol, including E15 (15-per-cent ethanol), E25 and E85, Thomson said. Neither E15 or E25 is available in Canada. “Canada and U.S. both have a renewable fuel standard, but Canada’s is pretty tepid, Thomson said.

Can you mix gas and E85 in a flex-fuel vehicle?

Scarcity of Fuel Stations The benefit of a modern flex-fuel vehicle, though, is that you can use any combination of gasoline and ethanol, whether it's 100 percent unleaded gas or 85 percent ethanol. Your vehicle's sensors will detect the blend and make the necessary changes.

Is E85 the same as 87?

E85 has an octane rating higher than that of regular gasoline's typical rating of 87, or premium gasoline's 91-93. This allows it to be used in higher-compression engines, which tend to produce more power per unit of displacement than their gasoline counterparts.

Will E85 damage my engine?

E85 is actually safer for your engine than regular gasoline is. E85 flex fuel not only powers your engine but also cleans your engine, fuel lines, and fuel injectors. That's because E85 contains a high amount of ethanol, up to 83%. Ethanol is an excellent cleaner.

What will happen if I put E85 in a regular car?

Continually filling a standard gasoline car with this high-ethanol fuel can result in serious fuel system corrosion. Plus, when you accidentally put E85 fuel in a car, it may void your engine warranty. That means you could be on the hook for the repairs, even if your car is brand new.

What happens if you accidentally put E85 in your car?

If your car isn't a flex-fuel vehicle and you mistakenly add E85 to your tank, you may notice reduced performance and gas mileage. Your check engine light may also appear, but the mishap likely won't damage the engine. They recommend topping the tank off with regular gasoline several times.

Does E85 make more power?

Faster Burning. E85 fuel has a faster ignition time and flame propagation when compared to gasoline. This leads to higher cylinder pressure, as well as increased engine torque and power, gaining up to 20%. The increased exhaust gas flow allows turbos to spool quicker.

Does E85 burn faster than regular gas?

The drop in fuel economy is because ethanol has lower energy content per gallon than gasoline. E85 also burns faster than regular gasoline because it vaporizes faster. So your engine may eat through E85 faster than regular gasoline.
