Never thought about them being too close to the water! I'm sad because we are on deck 4 too and thought they would open so if the rooms are stinky from the previous person smoking we could air it out. I swear I saw a picture of the port hole open but I must have been dreaming!

Hi Nu2cruizin, We were on the Pearl last Aug. Port hole Deck 5, the room worked well for us. We could tell what the weather was like and it was nice having the light. Windows do not open. What side of the ship are you on? tr4

You mentioned that you thought you saw a picture of the port hole open, so I think you might be getting it confused where the port hole does have a door. We've been on level 4 on Dawn and the port hole is a good size. As big as a window on some of the other cruise lines.

I am not 100% sure about this because I cant find it at the moment, but I swear I read on NCL's website that if someone smokes in a stateroom, at the end of the cruise when the cabin stewards clean the room they replace everything... curtains, etc.. that is how they keep down on the after affect of the smoke.
