I am using a solid surface shower base and want to use kerdi strip to cover the gap between cement board and flange of shower base, but rather than full kerdi on the walls I want to use hyrdroban since it's simpler.

Before having their own flanged drain, Laticrete supported using Hydroban with a Kerdi drain. So technically, they support the waterproofing bond you'll get when applying Hydroban over Kerdi fleece. If the installation will support it (and if you'll already have it on hand), you could also use anti-fracture fabric instead of Kerdi.
