What is the best tint for a windshield?

Ceramic is the best. It rejects UV's better than regular old metallic tint. It's worth the money. Additionally, you can put no tint or clear ceramic film on the windshield (interior portion) to keep UV's minimal through the windshield. Ironically this is usually $100 for the windshield alone. Ceramic tint can be $500 for your other windows.

Ceramic coat will wear out over time. A proper high quality ceramic tint will be the best cost effective option for what you want to achieve.

Does ceramic tint reduce UV rays?

Short answer: Yes. Ceramic coating will reduce UV rays from entering the car. But so will most quality window tint that can be had for 1/3rd the price of a full ceramic wrap. When it comes to heat transfer, UV is not your concern. IR is. Ceramic tint is the only film that is going to drastically cut out on infrared frequencies of light (upwards of 80-90% of felt heat).#N#Something to consider would be to do ceramic tint on your front windows and windshield, and then do a carbon film in the back windows. This wont be as ideal as ceramic all the way around but will give you fantastic results for less $$.

But why is putting wax on a windshield dangerous and uneconomical?

While wax will provide some water-repelling properties to the windshield after it has been treated, it really won't work long-term. But more importantly - the water-repelling will not be strong enough that you could consider referring to the term 'safe driving' while in heavy rain.

But are there better ways of making your windshield water repellant?

"What about Polymer Sealants?" - is a question that we get from time to time. Well, while the polymer sealant might not attract dirt as wax would, it will get washed off with the weakest shampoo as well. So it is a better option in terms of how often you have to wash the windshield.

So, what about Ceramic Coatings, can I use those on a windshield?

We are glad you've asked! You can, and out of the three, it is definitely the best option if you want to give the treated glass some hydrophobic or water-repelling action! It is very effective and due to the chemical resistance and toughness high-quality Ceramic Coatings have - they will persist through windshield cleaning fluid and windshield wipers.

But CeramicCoatExpert, what do you suggest then - to use or not to use on a windshield?

We usually do not coat glass surfaces on a car, except if it is specifically requested by the customer. The simple reason for that is because it does not offer much compared to the rest of the car.

Summary

So, all things considered, if you take all those warnings that we have mentioned above and still decide to go for it - that is perfectly ok! You just have to know that you will not get the same long-lasting results on the glass as you will on other surfaces of your car.

Which Ceramic Coating is the best for Glass Surfaces?

We would definitely avoid most Ceramic Spray Coatings because while they are easier, simpler, and less time-consuming to apply, they are also much less durable and they usually do not survive any stronger chemicals or last as long. They also tend to degrade much faster when damaged by even the smallest of stimulants.

Since it's a coating and it has now cured, Glass Cleaner, Surface/Coating Prep, and degreasers aren't going to remove it. But there is a simple step you can take. Ceramic Spray Coating. Apply right overtop to even out, and buff away residue as normal.

enoch7fa

oh one problem I did have. after applying to driver side with part a I went over to passenger side and there was hardly any product left same with b

Rich

Thanks for the tip Falcaineer. I had the same issue, and even now, after at least a month, it's still a mess. Going to try the spray coating (ZERO issues with this stuff) and see if I can get rid of the streaks. Good tip!

falcaineer

well because I didn't want any sun issues I applied it in the evenings after 4pm and since it is no longer daylight savings time sun was going down. after I applied part a I went immediately to part b like instructions said. started removing residue.
