Can I run a 4L80E without a computer? However, the 4L80E can be easily converted to a manually shifted valvebody, which eliminates the need for the computer and much of the electronics and wiring. This conversion turns the 4L80E into a great heavy-duty analog overdrive transmission that can be easily swapped into almost any high-horsepower 4×4.

Best 4L80e controller | Team Chevelle

Hi all I am planning on installing a 4L80e and was wondering wich transmission controller to use. I have my eye on the CompuShift ll from www.hgmelectronics.com but a body of mine thinks that I should use the USshift 4. He says it is better for connecting the computer and set up each gearshifts.

Cheap 4L80e controller how-to - The BangShift.com Forums

I'll stick with a Microsquirt. Even on non-EFI engines all it needs is a MAP and TPS sensor, then the Tach In wired up to the distributor for RPM. $30 for the transmission plug and $340 for a Microsquirt with 30" of wire harness, all in $370 to control it with a lot more control inputs than an OE PCM.

Where is the shaft speed sensor on a 4L80E?

0411 PCM Transmission Output Shaft Speed Sensor (This is the sensor near the back of the transmission. The Input/Output shaft speed sensors on the 4L80E transmission are not polarity sensitive, and just simply need wired to the PCM)

What connectors are used in HP tuners?

All the Transmission electrical connectors, and the Factory PCM electrical connectors, and a OBD2 diagnostics port connector for the HP tuners interface to PCM communications.

What PCM to use for a 350?

Biggest thing here is PCM selection. You need a PCM that runs a 4L80E preferably or 4L60E that also reads the crankshaft position wheel. Example, my firebird setup is running a 4.8L LS gen 3 engine that has the 24X wheel. So for the PCM or tune file, it needed to be out of a vehicle that had the LS 24X crankshaft position sensor wheel so the PCM's RPM input would read accurately. If your running a older style 350 small block chevy you would need a PCM out of a chevy express van and setup the engine for the same crankshaft position sensor and wheel to get the correct RPM input into the PCM.

What is the blue connector on a 0411?

The Blue connector is referred to as C1 and the Red connector is referred to as C2.

What to do if your transmission is not shifting?

REMOVE ALL TORQUE MANAGEMENT AND DISABLE ABUSE MODES IN BOTH ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION TABS If this is not done the transmission will not shift correctly.

Do you need a TPS sensor for EFI?

The next thing is TPS. For us using EFI this is no big deal because we already have a TPS sensor. For those of you who are looking into doing this for your carburated setups, you'll need to fabricate a mount onto your carb for a TPS sensor. This PCM REQUIRES A TPS INPUT in order to function correctly as a transmission control module.

Do you need a neutral switch on a 0411?

You DO NOT NEED a neutral safety switch on the transmission and wired to the 0411 PCM to make it function. All this switch did in the factory cars/trucks was inform the Instrument Panel what gear its in for its gear selector display and to not allow the engine to start in any gear but park/neutral. It is a nice safety feature, but not required.

How to make a 4low shift controller work?

Installing a reluctor ring to the output is the easiest way to make one work as that eliminates the need for the ECM to factor in the 2.72:1 low range when in 4low and allows the use of most any shift controller box. Or you can go with a custom PROM chip in your current ECM to shut off engine functions, add a TPS to the DB2, and have it work that way (you would need to retain the crank sensor for the engine speed portion).

Can OBD1 ECM be changed?

The OBD1 ECM can be changed over to only recognize the APP 1 side which works directly with a standard TPS's voltage range. The big cost of doing it is the custom tune whereas if he went with an aftermarket TCM like an OPTISHIFT he could adjust it himself to do whatever he wants. He could also get a chip burner and such and do his own files if he can find a definition file to do so, but the labor involved in this option may outweigh the cost savings.

Does a 4x4 Tranny have an ISS sensor?

The 4X4 tranny only has the ISS sensor, the OSS sensor is located in the transfer case and sends a different signal to the prom, which obviously any 2wd TCM will not be able to read. YES, a sensor can be installed in the case, but the reluctor ring on the output shaft is not there.
