I've used bed liner on smaller wood projects & it has held up well. It adheres well, and deals with abrasion rather well. I'd figure coverage rates at about 1/2 of what is expected for metal if you go that route, as there's a lot more absorption & texture to fill in. I'd smooth it out with a belt sander before hand as well just to cut down on material costs. (not sure how big this is)
