Passive voice is a sentence that focuses on a subject that is acted upon by a verb, rather than a subject that performs a verb. An example is "the ball was thrown by Jane." There are places where you'd want to use it, but by and large, you really shouldn't. In general, it just makes for overly awkward and confusing sentences.
