Lately I noticed all sink installation instructions, at least from China, suggest to use silicone for the sink drain. Plumbers putty is a bit oily and I think the granite sink will obsorb the oil and eventually look like a stain. Plumbers putty okay for silgranit sink?
I've done a lot of searching but so far haven't found a definitive answer. I know plumbers putty is not good for granite or marble countertops but curious if anyone has used for attaching drain flanges with a silgranit (Blanco) sink. Since the silgranit is a non-pourous composite my assumption is that it's okay to use but wanted to make sure.

I called Blanco with the same question. Their recommendation was clear silicone. I didn't ask why. You can get their number from whitepages.com - it isn't on their website.

I have always read DO NOT use plumber's putty on silgranit sink. Came home today and our plumber has used it on installing the garbage disposal. The putty oozes out of the sides but does not look to be on the sink very much.

Whats the reason not? the putty may have a little oil but I don't see how it would affect the silgranit. It's pretty much standard to use putty to seal the flange to the disposal, yes it will ooze on under the sink. you shouldn't see much putty from above, if you do just wipe it off.
