In fact, all truckers for hire, brokers, or freight forwarders must have a BOC-3 form filed with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) before their Authority will be issued. And, only a process agent has the authority to file BOC-3 form.

Keep in mind that there is a minimum 10 day waiting period for granting authority, but 3 weeks is typical. Also, you must have your insurance filed with the FMCSA to get your authority. You should check with your insurance provider to ensure they know how to do this properly.
What does the expiration date on a DOT form mean?
That expiration date is for that version of the form being used for filing. This just means that the DOT should have released a new version of the form by then. It does not affect your filing status, which will be retained.

No. The purpose of this is if you had retained your own registered agents in each of the 50 states and D.C. and were filing the BOC-3 yourself. By having a blanket process agent file it on your behalf, you need only retain a copy for your records.
Can I act as my own agent?
You may act as your own process agent only within your base state. You must maintain a physical address where you can receive services of process during regular business hours. It is highly unlikely you’d logistically be able to be your own Blanket Agent. We charge $25 to be your blanket agent.
Who can I designate as my agent?
Any adult person who resides or maintains an office in the state for which they are designated for.
