However, the extent by which these additives increase the octane depends on two significant variables; product and fuel dilution.
Is octane booster bad for your car?
Octane boosters and gasoline grades above 87 octane are a waste of money unless you are driving a high-performance sports car that the manufacturer recommends a higher octane fuel. As to the question, octane boosters aren't good or bad. They won't hurt anything but your wallet, and there is scant evidence that they boost performance.
What is an octane booster and what does it do?
Octane boosters are products that are added to fuel in order to increase its octane rating. The octane rating of the fuel is defined as the measure of how slow the fuel burns. In other words, it is the measure of how much the fuel is able to resist engine knock at high compressions. This means that when the octane rating of a fuel is high, it can withstand more compressions before it explodes within the combustion chamber.

Do octane boosters actually boost octane?
In case you're unfamiliar with octane boosters, they're designed to improve your engine's stability under compression by increasing the octane rating of the fuel you're getting at the pump. This contributes to cleaner performance, as well as protecting your engine from untimely wear and tear.
Can octane booster damage your engine?
“Octane boosters can cause damage. An example would be operating an automobile engine using aviation fuel. Aviation fuel is higher octane and contains lead. Leaded fuel will damage the catalytic converter and sensors.
How much HP does octane booster add?
Doubling the dose of octane booster to 4 ounces in the 2-gallon fuel cell (like putting two 16-ounce bottles in a 20-gallon tank), and leaving the timing set at 38, we gained 1.5 hp.

If you add too much octane booster, your engine will run slow or sluggish because the fuel is burning too slowly. An Octane booster is an additive for gasoline engines. So it should be used to increase octane rating and eliminate knock or ping in your vehicle's engine.
When should I use Octane Booster?
To use an octane booster, just pour it into your gas tank when it's low on gas, using the measurements on the bottle. Then, pump your gas on top of it. If there's higher octane gas available at the pump, use this instead of adding an octane booster, since this will typically be cheaper.
Will Octane Booster help 87 gas?
Boosting octane level But if your owner's manual recommends 93 octane and you fill it with 87, you can easily exceed the computer's ability to compensate. So use the correct octane gas the next time you fill up. In the meantime, to get the check engine light to go off, buy octane booster at the auto parts store.

What is the function of octane boosters?
Function of Octane Boosters. These boosters contain anti-knock additives, which when added to the fuel, prevent the onset of knock (pre-detonation or pinging). By preventing knocking, the octane rating of the fuel is raised.
How does octane boost work?
Octa ne boosters increase the engine combustion temperature. Engine combustion, which burns air and fuel inside, is significantly improved because of octane boosters. As fuel containing octane boosters enters a vehicle’s cylinders, the spark from the spark plug ignites the fuel/air mixture. Due to a high octane rating, the resulting combustion is greater, and this results in more engine power and efficient fuel burning.

What is an octane booster?
Octane boosters are actually fuel additives that are added to the gas inside the tank. Gas additives take the form of oxygenates like alcohols or ethers, which reduce the carbon monoxide expelled into the air. Fuel system cleaners can also be helpful to clean up harmful build-up and keep your engine running as it should.
What happens if the mixture combusts?
If the mixture combusts later, then your engine is normal and should be running smoothly. To prevent knocking, octane boosters are used in small quantities along with the gas in the tank. Adding lower octane fuel than what’s required can also cause knocking. Knocking can actually destroy the engine.

With the right number of octanes in the fuel, the combustion process happens just right, according to the engine build and specifications. Remember: car manufacturers make the engines with a certain fuel standard in mind, and octane boosters help out in reaching that standard.
What Are Octane Boosters?
So, before we get into the subject too deeply, we suggest that it would be best to take a moment and explain what ‘octanes’ are, and why do they need boosting at all. By getting the wrong idea, or even worse – the wrong fluid, you risk a lot when it comes to engine longevity and overall performance.
Why is octane booster important?
So, it is important to remember that an octane booster formula is not a magical fluid, but it is there to help enhance the fuel so the engine can use it better during the combustion process. Running a car on low-octane gasoline will eventually start a lot of other serious problems inside the engine.

This particular formula will bring the octane ratings up, as well as clean the fuel intake system of your car’s engine.
Why is octane booster important?
Octane Booster. Fuel octane contributes to the stability of the vehicle’s fuel under compression. For instance, a higher-octane rating will indicate that you get better resistance to detonation and engine knock. Purchasing an octane booster will help give your vehicle protection from low octane issues.

Does Nos Max boost work?
Sorry to correct most of you but Nos max racing octane booster does work and it raises octane numbers by 6 full octane numbers or 60 points probably when used at highest recommended dosage. So that means 91 becomes 97 octane fuel. Pretty good if u ask me, And most people don't have the compression to take full advantage of that octane rating anyways. I have used it in a Harley with 11.3:1 compression and notice the difference in throttle response and power. If you put it in a VW Beetle it will run like a VW Beetle and you probably wont really notice a difference. If you put it in something with high compression and or boost you will be more likely to keep buying it. Kind of expensive but it does work. At least some of it does.
