No ....I don't know where you got the salt thing from Ryno but seasoning is generally done by using a good high heat cooking oil like rice-bran oil, canola or by using other animal or vegetable fats.

I always end, not that I exactly buy a new bbq very often, to do as described and "season" with oil before the first cook, it's well worth it.
