Nearly half of them here have lyme here. They stay down low on grass, plants, ect.. They stick their legs out like hooks and latch on to any passer by, birds, mice, cats, dogs, chipmunks, someone's foot, ect... Next is adult they are easier to see, close to the size of the wood tick. They can be active year round if you have a mild winter. Other wise they kind of shut down until spring. Duluthinbloomz4 states a good point about the ticks maybe likeing damp bark mulch. I don't know the answer to that, but would like to. filix
