How To Check If Your Heating System is Compatible with ecobee?
To check whether your heating system is compatible with ecobee, go to the company’s compatibility website here . Once there, follow these instructions:
What HVAC Systems is ecobee Compatible With?
If you’ve decided to get an HVAC system or other heating and cooling system compatible with your ecobee, you should first ensure that your system is not high voltage. You can tell that it is not high voltage by the absence of these:
Can You Use a Smart Thermostat with a Mini Split?
The short answer is that no, you can’t use smart thermostats with ductless mini-split units. Additionally, not every mini split has WiFi capabilities. However, there are some workarounds to this problem. Smart WiFi controllers are one such workaround:
What is Ecobee heat pump?
The Ecobee is up to the task of running a single-stage heat pump with no problems whatsoever from start to finish. Single-stage heating systems allow for two functions to be controlled by the thermostat: heating and cooling.
Do you need a thermostat for a single stage heat pump?
The single-stage heat pump system will require a single-stage thermostat; the Ecobee is more than capable of performing this function.
Can an Ecobee heat pump run multiple functions?
A single-stage heat pump that is paired with the Ecobee thermostat system will only be able to run one function at a time. This is a very simple concept that the Ecobee is well suited to handle.
Is Ecobee a single stage heat pump?
Single-stage heat pumps are no harder for the Ecobee to be used with than a furnace or other common heating systems. The fact that single-stage heating systems are the most common kind is a huge benefit.
Can Ecobee heat pumps be used with a heat pump?
This system can be used with single and second-stage heat pumps. A user will have to ensure that the setup has been properly performed before using the Ecobee and a heat pump together. Once the systems have been set up to function together, it is simple, even for the less technically inclined.
Is Ecobee thermostat more effective?
It is far more effective at maintaining stable temperatures in the home when used with the Ecobee thermostat
How many stages of heat are in a heat pump?
Supports up to 4 stages of heat (2 stage heat pump, 2 stage auxiliary heat) and two stages of cool
What thermostats are compatible with a gas furnace?
ecobee thermostats are compatible with most residential heating and cooling systems in North America, including gas, oil, electric, and dual fuel systems.
Can you install PEK with C wire?
Cannot be installed with the PEK if a C wire isn't present—C wire must come from the air handler, not the boiler
Does Ecobee thermostat have variable fan speed?
ecobee thermostats do not support proprietary features supported by communicating thermostats (such as variable fan speed), so these features will be lost
So this just happened. Is it normal for the Ecobee app to forget your thermostat info?

No Heat!
Ugh! We installed our ecobee this summer and it worked great keeping our house cool! Unfortunately we discovered the heat was not turning on this week when the temps dropped. The fan was blowing but no hot air! We thought maybe the igniter was out on the furnace, called our HVAC guy and he walked my husband through testing it. Igniter was fine.
1. Strength Off
Make sure the power is off at the breaker prior to starting and use a voltage tester to verify that wires and/or electrical contacts are completely lifeless before you start working on them. Make sure everyone in your home is aware that electrical work is going on. Tape the circuit breaker into the off position.
2. Be Careful What You Touch
Never touch plumbing or fuel pipes while working together with electricity they are often used to ground electrical systems.
3. Use The Right Tools
Before you begin, be sure you have an idea in place as to what outlets, switches and fixtures will be involved in your project. Create sure you have all the appropriate tools, including but not limited to: needlenose pliers, wire blades, cable & wire stripper, fish & colored tape, volts tester, continuity specialist, electric & rightangle drill.
4. Purchase the Right Parts
If you are installing new receptacles make sure the new ones match the wiring in your home. A AL-CU stamps means it can be used on aluminum and copper wiring. When it is unmarked or you will find a reduce through the 'S if should only be used on copper wiring.
5. Add a Junction Box
Never splice wire connections together and hide them within a wall with no verse box — an accessible junction package should always be used to become a member of wires.

Ecobee and Heat Pump Setup
- While heat pumps are not all too rare, they are used far less than other heating systems. Still, Ecobee can be used with this technology without any problems whatsoever. Doing so will just require a few extra steps to properly set up the system. The steps are very straightforward, and anyone could knock them out easily. These are the few extra steps when setting up an Ecobee s…
Single-Stage Heat Pumps and Ecobee
- Almost every home uses a single-stage heating system. Ecobee is more than capable of being compatible with this very simple concept. Single-stage heat pumps are no harder for the Ecobee to be used with than a furnace or other common heating systems. The fact that single-stage heating systems are the most common kind is a huge benefit. A few of the elements of single-st…
Second-Stage Heat Pumps and Ecobee
- This system is a little more specialized, but the Ecobee can function with it normally as it does with a single-stage heat pump. The Ecobee thermostat is a versatile piece of technology that can operate with many different systems. This is particularly useful for people who are not sure what type of heat pump they currently have; Ecobee is great! A...
Conclusion
- The incredibly versatile Ecobee thermostat is more than capable of running the functions of both single-stage and second-stage heat pumps. This system brings a wonderfully simple user interface to the heating system that homeowners will absolutely love. It requires a little more time for installation, but the results are definitely worth it. The Ecobee thermostat is able to run a sing…
Using The Compatibility Checker
Systems That Are Compatible with Ecobee Thermostats
Systems That Are Not Compatible with Ecobee Thermostats
Incompatible Wires
- Wired temperature sensors
Outdoor temperature sensors are used to give your thermostat weather data. ecobee thermostats obtain weather data from the Internet, so these sensor wires (e.g., S, S1, S2) are not necessary. If your system has sensor wires, it may still be ecobee-compatible. Check compatibility. - L wires for heat pumps
On some thermostats for heat pump systems, L wires control an indicator light that turns on when auxiliary or emergency heat is on. L wires cannot be connected to an ecobee thermostat—it doesn’t need them. The ecobee thermostat and app will show you the status of your system wit…
