The Google Home Hub: All you need to know
Google Home Hub is actually very small in size, however, that doesn’t really seem to matter because it is surprisingly useful in very many ways. From taking you through complex recipes to organizing your smart home to locating for you a decent place to dine if you can’t really cook.
A Tiny Screen, But A Big World
Coming in at a little over 4.5-inches in height, the Hub is considerably small. Accompanied by a 7-inch portrait style display screen connected to a stand that’s an oval fabric. Unlike the Amazon Echo Show, the hulking beast that’s its main competition, the Home Hub from Google doesn’t take up that much room at all.
Versatile Personal Assistant
Google Home Hub allows you the ability to issue a large variety of voice commands. Plugging it in and setting it up is done using the Google Home application through Wi-Fi connectivity.
The Super Smart Ambient EQ Feature

Is Google Home Hub bad?
The Google Home Hub isn’t without its problems, though these are gripes I’ve had with Google’s smart home ecosystem for a while. Setting up devices is very simple, but adding multiple accounts to the Hub was a pain for me. Even once I’d sent and accepted the required invites, I still had to rummage through individual device settings in the Home app to kickstart the feature. The app’s settings menus are still a labyrinth that could use simplifying.

How does Hub Max work?
The Hub Max also uses the camera to enable limited gesture controls. You can look at the screen and raise your palm to pause and resume anything that is being played, such as music, video, or a podcast. This worked surprisingly well in my tests and was great for when my hands were wet or dirty and I couldn’t touch the screen or I didn’t want to use a voice command. Google tells me it’s starting slow with the gesture features, but it’s easy to see how other gestures, such as a wave left or right to skip tracks, could be implemented.

Google calls this feature Face Match and setting it up is an entirely opt-in process that involves taking a few photos of your face in the Google Home app on your phone and sending them to the Hub Max. But it asks a lot from you to get those functions: a higher price (especially compared to the frequent discounts on the Nest Hub), a larger footprint, and trust that the camera won’t be hacked or used for nefarious purposes. If you’ve been wanting a Nest Hub that just does more, the Hub Max is it. But for most people, the Nest Hub is the better smart display to purchase.

The Nest Hub Max is quite literally just a bigger Nest Hub . It has the same shape and proportions as the smaller model, just expanded. The 10-inch display is mounted on a base that houses the speakers, which gives the screen a bit of a floating appearance. The Hub Max is a little taller than Amazon’s competing 2nd-gen Echo Show, but both devices take up about the same amount of space on your counter. It’s fine for a kitchen counter or even a mantle in a living room, but it’s likely too big to comfortably fit on a nightstand or other small spaces.

“Does that mean the Nest Hub is tracking me?” Technically, yes, but not in any kind of malicious way. For one, the inclusion of a Soli chip means gesture controls in thin air. The ability to skip between tracks is absent at launch, but a wave gesture for snoozing alarms is part of a much greater suite of Soli features. Want a hint?
