What is the Oklahoma Department of Transportation's engineering program?
The minimum requirement for application into the Program is a BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.

What is the advanced curriculum for engineering?
The advanced curriculum normally begins at the Engineer Intern Level III stage. You will be given additional responsibilities and in-depth instruction in your area of specialization. For example, an Engineer Intern in Construction will normally gain three to six months of experience in construction survey, three to six months in construction inspection, one month in all phases of material testing, and one month in estimate preparation, final project documentation and other office procedures.

What is EDC in engineering?
Upon completion of the rotation you will meet with the Engineer Development Council (EDC), a group of Professional Engineers who are responsible for overseeing the Engineer Development Program. They review your progress, approve your area of specialization and assign your duty station. The assignment takes into consideration your preferences and the department’s needs.
Is professional engineering automatic?
Professional Engineer. Career progressions are based upon merit and are not automatic. However, if you are diligent and have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering examination, you may expect to progress each year of your first three years. All progressions are geared toward achieving Professional Engineer status.

The Professional Engineer job family has three levels that are distinguished based on the complexity of the engineering assignment, the level of expertise required by a specific position, and responsibility for providing leadership to others.

How to become a PE in Oklahoma?
To become a licensed PE in Oklahoma requires an engineering degree from an ABET accredited 4-year bachelor’s degree program. Passing the NCEES administered Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and working under an experienced PE’s supervision for 4 years of progressive work experience as an engineer are also required. Candidates must pass the NCEES administered Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam. The engineer can then submit an application to OSBLPELS showing they meet the requisite education, testing success and internship requirements for licensure as a PE in Oklahoma. The board makes the final determination of whether an engineer gets their PE license.
