An OK trick I suppose. I'm not even sure that will still work on the current code base. With zero editing of the shipped JARs...which is a no-no in terms of your EULA, you can just use the preferences to have sql developer adopt your OS theme look and feel or you can use the PLSQL Syntax Color Scheme setttings to change how the editors appear.
