Can you serve alcohol in Ontario without Smart Serve?
Smart Serve is now required by anyone who serves or handles alcohol and managers and security staff in Ontario. Since the early 2000s, all staff, managers, licensees, and security must be certified and carry their Smart Serve cards while working.
Can a bar serve alcohol without food in Ontario?
Regulation 719 under the Liquor Licence Act has been altered to temporarily allow licensed bars and restaurants to sell beer, wine and spirits along with food. They cannot, however, sell alcohol without a food order.
Do you need Smart Serve to work at LCBO?
In Ontario, employees handling liquor must attend Smart Serve training, and employees at the LCBO or Beer Store receive training on how to check identification in order to ensure customers are complying with the province's legal drinking age.
How much is a Smart Serve certificate?

Do I need to retake my Smart Serve? How do I get my eCertificate?
You do not need to re-purchase the training course. If you are already Smart Serve certified, you will have access to your eCertificate from your online account.
Where do I get my Smart Serve certificate (eCertificate)?
Login to your online account and click on the “My Results” tab. You will be able to view, save, download, or print a PDF version of your eCertificate.
How do you know that I am already certified?
Your certificate number is attached to an individual registration that includes your full legal name and date of birth.
I lost my card. How do I get a replacement?
As of October 25, 2021, we are no longer printing and mailing replacement cards. Please login to your online account to access your eCertificate, free of charge.
