A regular customer of mine has 8 downlighters in his bathroom ceiling, he wants rid of them as he's sick and tired of replacing the expensive bulbs.

britishblue New Member

If you swap the fitting for ELV downlighters with transformers, the lamps are quite cheap now, and because of the soft start provided by the transformer, the lamps last for ages. I have had 32 in my house and in the last 10 years have only had to replace approximately 8-10 lamps.

If it's not too big a room I would just board straight over the top of the whol lot and skim or tape and joint.

brummie taff New Member

Best and quickest way is timber across the hole screwed eitherside of the hole and then fix piece of pb to fit hole. Can then skim straightaway which is very useul when patching on sites.

Micilin

Yes, cut a bit of board slightly narrower but longer than the hole. For you say 65 x 120.

Another way is to put a bit of batten through the hole long enough to go each side of the hole and screw in place from underneath .Then cut some plugs from a piece of scrap plasterboard ( hopefully cut with a holesaw of the same size)srew this to the batten and then tape and plaster

toomuchworknotenoughtime

Thanks for the replies. I'll pop a bit of plasterboad in from above to provide the surface to fill against.
