I think i see what you are saying - do the groves make the skirting board more flexible? - and will grab / stick like .... hold fast or will i plug and screw too?

hi if the wall is very wobbly this would show up more if you bend the skirting to suit, you need to decide on how bad the walls are, maybe just chop back any high spots in the plaster behind them first , try to use plugs and screws to pull skirting into any small hollows , if you do cut the back in any way the screws will just pull straight through , another way is to use a good grab adhesive and apply pressure while this cures and make good any small gaps with caulking colour matched to your walls, (or skirting) as for the mitre,s i would lay your skirting flat face down with a straight edge against the wall and mark the outermost edge along the floor around your corners , where the lines cross on the corners draw another line directly to the point of the corner this should give you a more accurate angle to cut your mitres too as corners are rarely true.

It seems to be the part of the wall in the middle which is pushing the skirting out leaving some big gaps from wall (up to 1cm) on the other ends of the skirting boards.
