
Windsor Knot
- Fold the wild rag in half and, holding it by the tails, place it in front of your neck.
- Cross the tails behind your neck and bring them to the front to tie.
- Place one tail over the other.
- Wrap the top tail around the bottom tail and pull it down straight in front.
- Continue holding the top tail down straight. The bottom tail should be directly underneath it.

Can a wild rag hold a knot?
NOTE: Please keep in mind that a knot in a wild rag can hold tight when accidentally caught on something , making it potentially dangerous. That's why some working cowboys and cowgirls only use a scarf slide when they're working, but when they go to town they might use a slide or a knot.
Wraparound With Slide
I love using scarf slides! You can find so many great slides in different shapes and sizes! I made this one from a concho a found at the tack shop by putting wire between the two screws. You can use slides in many different ways. Brooches work for this look too. Here I have a more traditional wrap style.
Headscarf
I decided to think outside of the box for this look. I folded my rag into a triangle and then folded (starting at the open ended point) into 2 inch sections. I then wrapped it around my head and tied a knot underneath my hair at the base of the left side of my neck. Use bobby pins to secure if needed.
Traditional Square Knot
A square knot is one of the most traditional and popular style among real working cowgirls. It keeps the cold wind off your neck and keeps the dust off! A larger size rag is definitely recommended for this look. Fold your rag into a triangle and place the open ended point in front pointing towards your feet.
Neck Tie
This is one of my favorite styles, mostly because I live in Arizona and the full size rags can be a little too hot for the desert. It is also super easy to add to a tee or tank. You’ll want a smaller size rag for this one. Fold the rag in a triangle and starting from the open pointed end fold into 1-1 1/2 in folds.
Wrist Tie
Don’t forget to just have fun! There are no rules to how to wear a wild rag. I often twist them around my wrist as an arm accessory! If you have a long one you can even twist it up and use it as a belt. Get creative!
