The difference between maintenance and a full restoration is a gulf of vast size. The maintenance of a brand new traditional wooden boat isn't as necessarily expansive as it is compulsory. But if the mere thought of maintenance gives you pause, walk away.

I would agree with above..... i don't know that there is that much difference in the quantity (time) of work required between a wood boat and a glass boat. --A proper sanding and a coat of paint vs a proper cleaning, compounding and waxing. -- The skill set required is quite different, however anyone can learn.

When I was a teenager I helped my father restore a 35' yawl. This boat required a lot of work but structurally, the hull was sound. I don't recall any planking or rib, etc. problems. The masts were good but needed new standing rigging which we did. All the running rigging was updated. That's when I learned how to splice three strand.

Hard? Not really. Time consuming? Yes, it must be your chosen 'life style', not an add-on to an otherwise busy life. Do you already have the skills, tools and workspace to do the various maintenance projects? Then you're likely good to go. It's 'hard' to allocate time from a busy schedule of work and family.
