Step 2: Make the Cube
Measure the width of the wood, mine was 1.5 inches, and cut it to that length. it doesn't have to be perfect, just keep it within a 16th of an inch. You can use any size wood you want.
Step 3: Finding the Centers
You need to find the center of each cube. I'm assuming that if you have the tools to make this you know how to find the center of a square so I won't go into detail on that.
Step 4: Determine the Hole Depth

The best puzzle cube in history is clearly the Rubik’s Cube. But I don’t think it’s a stretch to say this is a close second.
Cut parts to size
Fasten a 1x4 board to a piece of 1/4-in. plywood with glue and 1-in. screws. Attach the assembly to the miter saw fence with 3/4-in. screws. Cut a kerf in the fence. This creates a zero-clearance fence that allows perfect alignment and keeps your parts from being pulled into the blade and destroyed. Crosscut parts A - D to length.
Make a drilling jig
Cut a piece of plywood approximately the size of the drill press table. Using glue and brad nails, fasten two scrap pieces to the plywood, forming a 90-degree angle.
Line up the jig
Set the height of the drill press table so that the bit is 3/16 in. above the surface of the jig. Mark the center of one end of Part E. Holding the marked part in the jig, align the point of the Forstner bit with the part’s center mark. Clamp the jig into place.
Drill the holes
Follow Figure A to drill the necessary holes in the parts. Small Forstner bits get clogged easily, causing them to get hot and lose their temper, so keep the bit clear of shavings. Using 220-grit sandpaper, sand the sharp corners of the parts as well as the hole edges. Paint the parts if you want.
String the parts and tie off
Follow Figure B for the assembly order. Cut a 12-in. length of elastic cord and tie one end to a stationary item; we used a clamp attached to the workbench. String the parts onto the cord, pulling the cord tight as you go. Tweezers work well to reach into the larger parts.

In the drawings, you can see that all the pieces of the frame have the same three-step profile. I prefer to cut this with the table saw. Cutting the strips to length is easier. Precision still counts here, too. Take time to make test cuts and use stop blocks to make repeatable cuts. For the notches at the ends, I used a homemade crosscut sled (shown in the photo) with a square shaper cutter. There are other options, of course, like a router table.
Step 4: Assemble and Glue Frame
Glue together square sides of the cube first. I made square panels with the corners cut off to hold the square shape without sticking to the glue when clamped together. Once two opposite square frames are glued, you can join them with the remaining four pieces.
Step 5: Sand Faces Flat and Round Edges
The frames are small enough that I was able to sand each face flat with a 12" disc sander. Then I used my homemade router table to round the edges with a 1/4" (6mm) roundover bit.
Step 6: Make Face Panels
As mentioned earlier, you can make all sorts of panels for the cube, just under 4 inch (100 mm) square. Step 7: Prepare Remaining Parts
I glued short dowels into holes in the wooden balls. The dowels fit inside the springs to hold the balls on the ends. I cut the springs 5 inches long, then screwed one into the other at the middle to make an "X". Drill a small hole through the dowels from one side to the other.

Can you use a sanding mandrel to glue a Rubik's Cube
Again you will have to use the Sanding Mandrel so that the piece from the Rubik's Cube fits onto it. Before you glue the pieces together you should round the corners. NOTE: Here you can see why it's better to use a FII type cube.
How to know where to saw?
In order to know where to saw, you will first have to mark the lines as shown in the pictures, by moving the layers.#N#After you've marked the lines you will have to disassemble the cube.
Can you use normal stickers on Lexan tiles?

When all holes are made, use a sandpaper to improve cube. Next, use a chisel to separate cubes. If everything look good you can paint cubes.
