To begin, cut several 2- and 3-inch lengths of wire. You'll want a wire thick enough that it won't break when you bend it into tight curves but thin enough that you won't strain and bruise your fingers trying to shape it. You can reshape it as you go until you get the shape you want.

The essential concept is to wrap a grapevine around an inflated ball using lengths of wire to hold the ends of the vine in place against an extant length of vine so that they don't slip or create sharp edges. Once you have the basic spherical shape, deflate the ball and extract the inflatable ball before the gaps between vines become too narrow.
Alternative Methods of Making the Ornament
