Step 1
Use a pair of scissors to cut two large triangle shapes from gray felt. The triangles should be at least 4 inches tall, with the outside edges cut into fringe.
Step 2
Cut two much smaller triangles, about 1 1/2 inches tall, from white felt. Fringe all of the edges of the white triangles to create a furry look.
Step 3
Use a hot glue gun to apply two dots, about half an inch apart, on the top right side of a gray headband. Add two more dots directly underneath, on the bottom of the headband. Attach a gray felt triangle with the fringe facing outward to the glue that is on the bottom side of the headband.
Step 4
Hot glue the white triangles to the front of the ears. Allow the glue to dry completely before wearing.
Step 1
Use pipe cleaners to form two triangles. Size and shape the triangles according to your costume – small triangles for cat ears, larger triangles for bat ears, and long skinny triangles for bunny ears.
Step 2
Fold felt in half and use the pipe cleaner triangles as a template to cut out your felt ears.
Step 4
Place felt ears around headband, sandwiching the pipe cleaner ears. Glue in place.
Directions
In small saucepan over medium heat, combine milk, salt, 2 tablespoons sugar and shortening. Heat until shortening melts and sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool to lukewarm, 110 degrees F (43 degrees C). Sprinkle in yeast and let sit until foamy.
1. Butter & Jam (a.k.a. The Scone Treatment)
This is sorta like a mash-up of two county fair favorites! To make these, dust elephant ear in granulated sugar, then top with butter and your favorite jam (team raspberry or strawberry??).
2. Bananas Foster
You'll be bananas for this one for sure. Dust elephant ears in cinnamon and sugar like usual, then pile on the bananas foster toppings (we love Chef John's recipe) — including a scoop of ice cream.
3. Salted Caramel
Fried bread + caramel — what else is there to say? Simply dust elephant ears with granulated sugar, drizzle with caramel sauce ( make your own or use store-bought!), then sprinkle with sea salt flakes.
4. Berries & Cream
Choose your own berry adventure! Dust elephant ears with granulated sugar and top with fresh berries and a dollop — or two or three — of whipped cream.
