You can plug the hole with exterior silicone caulking. It comes in squeeze tubes or caulking gun tubes. That's probably all you need. For a more aesthetic finish, and a hard cover to prevent stubborn rodents to bite through (though unlikely needed), you can apply a an exterior cable cover.Apr 29, 2021

How do you fix a hole in soffit?

Patch the holes with an overlay. There's usually a lip at the front edge of the soffit that allows you to tuck a new piece in there to fix the holes. Measure from the lip on the front of the soffit to the exterior siding of the house. Look for a thin piece of molding or trim where two pieces of plywood butt together on the ends.

How far apart do you staple soffits?

Shoot 3/4-inch staples, spaced 3 inches apart, 3/4 inch from the edges on both sides to secure the patch to the soffit. Apply caulk to the staple holes.

Why do soffits have holes in them?

Soffits are notorious for problems. They're often made with thin pieces of plywood joined together to create a long surface area. Plywood of this type just doesn't hold up. Moisture takes a toll, and it warps or cracks, leaving rotted pieces to drop out. Critters set up housekeeping in there, and the holes get worse. Don't allow it.

Can I add a receptacle in the soffit of my house?

I'd like to add a receptacle (for x-mas decorations etc) in the soffit of my house. I'd prefer flush-mounted so it's the least visible possible. It will be wired to a switch (timer) inside the house; I may end up running 14/3 to it so there's also constant power.
