What are stair risers and how do they work?

Apr 11, 2020 · How does a riser work? Similar to pipelines or flowlines, risers transport produced hydrocarbons, as well as production materials, such as injection fluids, control fluids and gas lift. Because the rigid risers are also fixed to the seafloor, vertical displacement occurs between the top of the riser and its connection point on the facility.

What is the purpose of an exhaust riser?

Shade raisers can be used to raise shades. The lamp between the harp and shade is called a shade raiser. How does a lamp shade carrier work? The shade carrier is used to control the height of the lamps and connect them to the shade. The lamp holder’s height can be adjusted by the shade’s height. Shades that use this system have a lot of advantages.

What's wrong with my riser?

Definition: riser (irrigation). A riser is a set of pipes that connect and/or support a piece of irrigation equipment on or to the irrigation system. Typically the equipment is mounted at or above ground level and the riser connects it to pipes or tubes located below ground.

What are PCIe risers and how do they work?

The riser, which we can also call a water induction elbow, does just that; it injects salt water from the cooling system into the exhaust piping, which is hose or fiberglass, so that the exhaust doesn't burn it up. And because the pipe is very large, a special arrangement has to be made to ensure that the top part of the hose or pipe gets enough cooling water.

How does riser card work?

Riser Cards are add-in cards that are inserted into a motherboard via an edge connector. They are oriented in a perpendicular fashion to allow for better use of limited space. This allows for expansions cards to be installed in a space where there would not be use for them traditionally.

The other 2 pins are ground wires... SATA power connectors has a total of 15 pins of which 9 are power pins (3 x 3.3V, 3 x 5V, 3 x 12V).Dec 6, 2012

What does a riser do mining?

PCIe risers have become a crucial part not only of PC building but also of crypto mining. PCIe risers maximize the space for better airflow and keep the setup neat and organized, especially in multi-GPU configurations. Aesthetics is another reason why PCI risers are on the rise (no pun intended).

Is it safe to power riser with SATA?

Yes, with a SATA connection there is a risk of fire, but not in all cases. SATA connectors are designed to withstand 4.5 amps (therefore, for 54 watts) on 12V DC. The PCIe specification allows a GPU to draw 5.5 amps (66-75w) from the PCIe 3.0 12V bus, therefore from the x16 riser slot.Oct 13, 2021

What does a riser cable do?

What is the biggest cause of engine damage and premature engine failure?

As someone who has evaluated hundreds of engine damage insurance claims, I can tell you that exhaust riser failures -- either in the design of the thing, or by corrosion failures -- is the single largest cause of engine damage and premature engine failure.

What is an exhaust riser?

All marine inboard engines have exhaust risers. The exhaust riser has two functions: (1) to keep water from backing up into the engine through the exhaust piping and , (2) it serves as the device that introduces cooling water into the exhaust exit piping system. If the riser fails to accomplish either of those jobs successfully, ...

What is the arrow on a mercruiser 4.2 riser?

Mercruiser 4.2 V6 riser. Arrow shows where corrosion hole occurred. It doesn't take much corrosion to block these small water passages. Note that the passages top and bottom only have a tiny hole where it met the larger passages on the manifold. Hard to figure this one???

Why do diesel engines have large exhaust pipes?

Diesel exhaust pipes have to be huge because these engines won't tolerate any back pressure, which will burn up exhaust valves. Otherwise, the fiberglass, rubber or silicone parts will burn up. That's not good, so they put a lot of holes all around the induction section like in the photo below. This causes a spraying action that gets all areas properly cooled.

Why does my boat's turbo charger fail?

You replace a $2000 turbo, not knowing why it failed, only to have it happen again because the riser is the culprit . This can happen when the elbow is at a horizontal angle, so that the water can run forward instead of only aft. Bearing in mind that a little change in trim of the boat can help the leaking water along here in positively the wrong direction. Notice that the stainless riser in the photo above is angled downward somewhat. Even if it did leak, the water would run away from the turbo, so this set up is a good one. Very good.

How to cool a sailboat?

The best thing for a sail boat is to use a dry, heavily insulated exhaust riser. That means no water cooling until injecting water on the down side. The problem you see in the photo below is that the water is injected on the UP side. This will eventually make life unpleasant for you. Often combined with water lift mufflers, this can be a problem if the muffler too can fill up with water. Personally, I do not like water lift mufflers because they cause too much back pressure, among other things. There often isn't enough space to install them correctly. If a system is designed right, it doesn't need a muffler as the water in the hose will accomplish all necessary muffling.

Why is cast iron better than stainless steel?

Cast iron works well because it tolerates extremes of temperature, expansion and contraction better than other options like stainless steel. Since cooling water is injected into the exhaust heated part, there is usually a zone of very high temperature difference -- a transition zone from superheated to quickly cooled. If you were to heat up a cast iron skillet red hot and then pour cold water in it, you know that that would probably crack the pan apart. Same thing with risers. Ergo, how they are designed has a lot to do with it. The heat transition zones result in more rapid rates of corrosion.

How many PCIe slots are there on a motherboard?

The good news is that most motherboards have about twenty PCIe lanes. Some of the slots on your motherboard are likely X4, X8, and of course X16. Since all of them are being used as X1 slots, you’re probably OK. The only way to know for sure is to check your part number on the manufacturer’s website.

What is a 4 in 1 PCIe riser?

4 in 1 PCIe risers are a fantastic way to get some additional PCIe slots in your motherboard. Much like standard PCIe risers, they allow the connection of X16 PCIe GPUs to plug into an X1 PCIe slot. Additionally, they allow for the card to “rise above” the motherboard making room for the cards in the first place.

What happens if my miner fails to start hashing?

In most cases the result will be a boot of the system but you will be unable to get video from any of the cards. Your miner will most likely fail to start hashing. Under Linux, EthOS, or SMOS the system will most likely boot, but then immediately crash with a ring test failure.

Can I install 4 in 1 PCIe risers?

After installing 4 in 1 PCIe risers you should look closely at your performance specs. I’ve seen several situations where these risers simply do not perform in certain slots. Again, check with your motherboard vendor to make sure the slots are supported slots. In these cases I have found that the single riser will work fine. Just move the 4 in 1 to a different PCIe slot. Lower than expected hashrates will be the most common indication there is a comparability problem with the slot.

Can you use a geek pub riser with a PCIe riser?

Fully compatible with our Geek Pub PCIe risers or just about any other brand. These 4-in-1 risers allow you to connect up to four GPUs to a single X1 PCIe slot!

Do you need a GPU for a mining rig?

When building a GPU based mining rig you’re obviously going to need a bunch of GPUs. These GPUs will be connected to a single motherboard. That immediately becomes a problem. Most motherboards only have one or two PCIe X16 slots for installing video cards. This is why miners use PCIe riser cards. However, even then most boards only have four to six PCIe slots available. Well it turns out there’s another solution: 4 in 1 PCIe risers.

Does Yeechun make 4 in 1?

Yeechun also makes a decent 4 in 1, as does S-Union. The only thing I find irritating about those brands as they tend to only sell the card in a kit. Many times I just need the 4 in 1 PCIe risers, but not the actual riser cards.

How far should a quadruple riser be from the sidewalk?

With a quadruple swing riser you simply swing the sprinkler over so it is as close to the edge of the sidewalk as you want it to be. (Again, 4 to 6 inches is the normal distance a sprinkler should be from a sidewalk. Before you ask, no, a 6 inch distance does not cause a dry spot along the edge of the sidewalk.)

How to make a sprinkler without bending?

Twist the ells around on the end of the pipe until the sprinkler is in the position you want without bending the pipe. Cut the pipe length shorter if need be. (I recommend starting with a 12″ to 18″ length of flex pipe and then cutting it shorter as needed to position the sprinkler.)

What is a rigid arm swing riser?

The rigid arm swing riser is the standard riser type used for rotor heads, including the large ones found in parks and golf courses. For small rotors with 1/2″ inlets and spray heads I would recommend using the flexible swing joint described above, although there is no reason you can’t use a rigid arm swing joint if you want. But for most rotors a rigid arm swing joint is the way to go. The pipe and fittings used to make the rigid arm swing joint should be the same size as the inlet on the rotor. Rigid risers are what I use on all my higher-end systems, as well as parks and golf courses.

How many ells are needed for a swing riser?

The preassembled swing risers often have 3 or even 4 ells which makes them much easier to install. 4 ells makes them a lot easier to install and position. If the swing joint you purchase has only 3 ells you can duplicate this 4 ell feature by adding street ells to the risers. A street ell is just an ell that has female threads on one end and male threads on the other (see photo below.) I suggest adding a street ell to one or both ends of your swing riser to make it easier to install. The street ells you use should be high density polyethylene, which is black in color and has a slightly oily feel. “Marlex” is a common brand name of high density poly that you may encounter. Do not waste your money on white PVC street ells, they are worthless for swing risers! The threads on high density polyethylene do not seize up like PVC does, which allows the threaded joint to stay flexible.

What is a simple pipe riser?

Simple Pipe Risers (i.e.; Nipples): One of the most common sprinkler risers used for residential systems is a simple short section of pipe called a “nipple”. How tall is a standard stair riser?

The standard height of stair risers is around 7.5 inches. Also, it’s important to note that risers built inside tend to be a few inches shorter than those built for the outdoors.

Why are there calculations for stairs?

Calculations are also made for stair treads in order to provide safety and appropriate functionality. The size of treads must be sufficient enough to properly step. Both treads and risers work hand-in-hand during the construction of standard staircases.

Why do clutter accumulate?

Because when you’re too focused on re-homing things that still have utility, that’s how clutter accumulates.

When were stair risers invented?

But when it comes to stair risers, the common ones we know and love today have been around since the 1940s thanks to their invention by Swiss architect Werner Bösendörfer. This is when stair risers really took off.
