How do you know when argon bottle is empty?
Feel the outside of the tank. You are looking for a change in temperature. You will notice a difference in temperature from a large portion of your tank (usually the empty part) from the remaining gas. This works well for argon tanks and gives you a rough estimate of how much gas you have left!
Is breathing argon gas harmful?
Inhalation: This gas is inert and is classified as a simple asphyxiant. Inhalation in excessive concentrations can result in dizziness, nausea, vomiting, loss of consciousness, and death. Death may result from errors in judgment, confusion, or loss of consciousness which prevent self-rescue.
How long does a 80 cubic foot Argon tank last?
Most household tanks are between 60 and 80 cf, and at a 20 cfh flow rate will last around 3 to 4 hours. However, the lifespan of your argon tank during TIG welding may vary as it depends mainly on your bottle size, the flow rate, as well as pre and post-flow losses.
How long does Argon gas last when welding?
Your flow rate is usually set from 10-20 cfh which on average if you had a 250 cf bottle would last for 10-20 hours of welding non stop. That would work out to about 2-4 days of serious welding.
Will welding ever go away?
While it is true that some jobs that could only be performed by a human are now overtaken by automation and robots, welding will not become obsolete by any means.

Your compressed gas cylinder with 20 cubic foot of Argon should last you an hour. When you've opened your gas valves and you're running your Argon shielding gas at a rate of 20 CF.
Why is argon so cheap?
Argon is inexpensive, since it occurs naturally in air and is readily obtained as a byproduct of cryogenic air separation in the production of liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen: the primary constituents of air are used on a large industrial scale.
Can you drink argon gas?
A: Argon is an inert, non-toxic gas.
Do gas bottles need to be upright?
Gas Bottle Safety & LPG Gas Cylinder Safety Tips: For gas cylinder safety, gas bottles always need to be on a solid base in an upright position for the pressure relief valve to work properly. They can't be stored indoors, near an ignition source or exposed to heat.

Why use argon and hydrogen?
Some individuals may resort to using a mix of argon and hydrogen, an active gas, in an effort to save money and speed-up the welding process. Although this is a somewhat effective means, it is likely that the weld will end up with small openings and pours with air bubbles inside.
What does flow mean in welding?
In welding terms, flow refers to the amount of gas being released at any given moment. Flow also indicates the consistency of the stream of gas released. The better the flow, the more consistent the release, the better the weld. To calculate your flow rate or how long your argon tank should last, you need to consider the size ...
