How many bar does a 039 MS390 run?
An 039/MS390 will run a 24/25" bar without problems. Although I think 64cc is marginal for 2 foot of bar. I've run up to a 30" on an 039. It didn't like it much but that's what I needed to do at the time. (tornado clean up)

A 20" bar works great on an 039. I opted for a .325 chain on mine, makes it even better..

Do you need a skip chain for a 390?
The only way I could see you running that setup would be the 390 top end and a healthy muffler modification. Even then, you'll probably need full skip chain. And you better keep that chain sharp.

I personally wouldn't run a 24" bar on a 029 super, but to each his own.
