How much to change pistons on CR500?
Anybody who is running a CR500 motor with any HP is changing pistons that often! Up front cost for a turn key motor.....You can get a 100+ HP motor for around $7k or you can shop around and find one in the 90 HP range for $3k to $4k. If you use the o-ring head it's just the cost of the piston ($220). On a fresh hone you can change 2 pistons. After that you need to have it honed and that's $60. As far as the bottom end goes.....I look at the color around the rod bearing and crank when I change pistons. I usually go 30 to 50 races before having the bottom end rebuilt. If you can't put your own piston in after 6 races obviously the cost will be higher to have the motor builder do it.
How many strokes can you run with 550cc?

Is a 500 cheaper to rebuild than a 450?
I'm sure Renee can give you idea of price for a piston and top end gasket set. The 500 will be cheaper to rebuild and to race then a 450 motor.
Can a 450 cc beat a 500cc?
450's compete very well against the 500's I see them winning all the time. I have had both and the 500 is a hand full to control unless the track is very heavy. If you build a 450 much bigger than 525cc you will have a ticking time bomb and when it comes apart you are out all that money. The 450 makes enough power to control and the more cc the harder it is to get to the ground.
Where is Ealeyville Speedway?
Ealeyville Speedway is by Springfield, IL. There is a lot of talk about maybe 30 of them in the area. Now if they all show up at once is a different story. Last year there was 10 to 15 every Saturday. I know of a Open QRC roller. Maybe 10 races on it. Its in Springfield.
Is a 450 faster than a 500?
What kinda of track condition and what is the competition like?........You are correct that a 450 CAN win......but the MAJORITY of the time a 500 will be faster. You get to somewhere like Cycleland or Montana....unless the track is just right with your 450, you'll get run over by a 500 99.9% of the time.
Can a 450 win a race?
On a slick track, or a bull ring, a built 450 CAN win. I ran against one of the best 450's made and because the 450 could do crawl starts and pull me half a straight on the restart it took a lap and half to run down, then the 500 had the power to drive right by. If it was one lane, the 450 would be tough to get around. Other than that one track condition or small track, like Renee said, the 500 has won all the biggest races, big, slick, small, or tacky..the 500 has proven it can win them all.
