Perhaps the most useful change GM made in 2020 is the new Durabed. New GM Heavy Duty trucks will have an increased bed length to 6’9″ on standard bed lengths and retain a 8′ long bed configuration. Both the larger, standard bed and the long bed will gain box length and max box volume however. Cargo is easier to lift into the bed as box lift-in height and overall height have been decreased. Up to 12 tow-hooks are available in the bed for your use to secure cargo. An optional 120 volt power outlet is available for all bed applications. Other noteworthy Durabed features include new side-panel bed steps capable of supporting 500 lbs, the corner steps integrated into the rear bumper, and a power up/down tailgate available on higher trim models. For specific L5P Duramax specifications on the new Durabed, take a look at the chart below.

What is L5P piston?

The L5P’s revised piston design results in significantly greater durability. These new cast-aluminum pistons have a taller crown area, and a remelted combustion bowl rim. Remelting is a process in that extends life and improves durability. After the pistons are cast, the bowl area is reheated. This creates a finer metal grain structure that can be attributed to longer lifespans. The pistons also don’t use pin bushings, reducing weight and improving performance.

Usage under normal conditions seems to be pretty light. Towing however it will gulp it up. Maybe 1000 miles I'll go through 4 gallons towing a 5800 lb travel trailer. So 1 box of DEF (at 2.5 gal) for 600 miles wouldn't seem to bad IF TOWING. With that said the DEF Gauge is terrible inaccurate during usage and when refilling.

I have a 2020 at4 with the duramax. My question is, how much def are others' trucks using? Mine seems to be pretty thirsty, much more so than previous diesels I've owned. I'm having to put a box of blue def in about every 600 miles. As soon as I put some in, it says something like '1000 miles of def remaining'.
