When did Extra Life start?
2008Extra Life was formed in 2008 to honor Victoria Enmon, who died of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. It was aided by the Sarcastic Gamer community, who sent gifts and video games to her. The main premise of the event is that group or teams get together and play different types of games for a 24 hour marathon.

More generosity
As much as this month has had a focus on Extra Life, there were streamers putting in the hours to raise awareness and funds for other worthwhile causes. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Twitch TV streamer Yicky raised money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
What is Extra Life?
Extra Life is a Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ fundraising program that rallies gaming communities from around the globe to support local children’s hospitals. Their Game Day unites thousands of gamers around the world to marathon their favorite games in support of their CMN Hospital of choice, and just like traditional marathons, gamers and streamers are sponsored by their friends and family to raise money for their campaigns. For us, that’s where the Rooster Teeth Community comes in.
How much money does rooster teeth donate?
Over the past five years, Rooster Teeth has facilitated the donation of over $5 million dollars to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals through the participation of thousands of Rooster Teeth community members during Extra Life. For RT, our local hospital is Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas, and this year we will also be supporting the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. Just two years ago, the community’s generosity came to fruition through the opening of the new Mental Health Unit at Dell Children’s and, with it, the adjacent Rooster Teeth Healing Garden, so now we're onto our new goal -- raising money for the HERE campaign.
