How much weight can a 6x6 post hold?
- Answers How much weight will a 6x6 post hold? The vertical load capacity of a "plain" wooden post will depend on its height. You can load a 6" x 6" post that is up to about 10 feet tall that is sitting under a spreader beam and on a sill to something like 15,000 pounds. But this is exclusive of any torsional or deflecting loads, and you know why.
How many Kips can a 6x6 post support?
A 6x6 8' in height with no load duration factor and of Doug Fir #1 or better is good for about 28 kips. But usually bearing stresses of the beam on the post or the post on support will control. As for your bow, I think that is due to shrinkage.
How much weight can a 6×6 support?
At a 4-feet span, a #1-S-P-F 6×6 can support 1,040 pounds per linear foot (PLF) or 4,160lbs per span, and a DF-L D-SS can carry 2080 PLF or 8320lbs per span based on allowable bending stresses (Fb). Run that span up to 20-feet, and the values drop to between 41 PLF or 820lbs per span and 83 PLF 1660lbs per span respectively.
What kind of wood are 6x6 posts made of?
In America, typical 6x6 pressure treated (PT) are southern yellow pine (SYP). I agree with "Trussdoc", bow is drying and actual loading is much less that design. (Straight 6x6's are difficult to find) I would consider just adding an additional 6x6 next to the existing post bolt the two together.

How much can a 6x6 post support?
As this screencap from it will tell you, a 6x6 post can support 20,000 even when 12' high— if cross-braced and secured properly.
How much weight can a 6x6 hold?
I have always assumed the safe load capacity of a 6x6 to be approx. 10,000 lbs, Although I'm sure they could handle alot more, really it depends on the geology/cement.
How many verticals to cut 16' span?
personally, I would use six verticals in order to cut the 16' span in half and bolt two 2x10's to the perimeter. Bolt the crossbracing too.
How much does a deck weigh?
I did a little research, I think you're off on your estimated support weight. Most decks are built to a 50 pounds per square feet, and high capacity decks are built to 70 psf. That puts you at eiter 9250 pounds or 12950 pounds with 185 sq feet. These should be the numbers you base the amount of posts on.
