Originally published in January 2008, the 17th Edition of the IEE wiring regulations became a legal requirement in July 2008. The new edition contains updates to the current standard, to which all domestic and commercial wiring must meet.

Can a fixed wiring electrical condition inspection report based on the 17th edition meet the legal requirements in May 2021?

An electrician has told me that there is no need to retest the fixed wiring of a house to the 18th edition because the last satisfactory test to the 17th edition is midway though its 5 year term and the outcome of repeating the test vs the 18th edition would be the same.

Firstly, the regulations are very clear that the electrics must meet 18th edition throughout the tenancy from 1 April 2021 (for existing).
