What's the difference between a 40 and 420 chain?
All will have a 1/2" pitch. We use the #420 chain the most out of these 3. It's not as wide (from side plate to side plate) as the #40 chain which helps to not slap your driven pulley or frame if it's in a tight fit. #420 will have more strength than the #41 chain because the side plates will be taller. #40 will be the beefiest chain in this class.
What is the difference between a 428 and a 420?
A 428 should have a higher tensile strength than a 420. I would assume that if it has a 428 on it and there are no problems, that you could replace with a 428 and be better off than with a 420.
What's the difference between a 525 and 530 chain?
A 525 chain (the size my bike uses) has a pitch of 5/8" (15.88mm) and a roller width of 2.5/8" (7.94mm). A 530 chain has a pitch of 5/8" (15.88mm) and a roller width of 3.0/8" (9.52mm). Now I feel better that anyone searching for "Chain size explanation" (including me) can find it for posterity.
Is the 420 too wimpy for me?
The 420 is simply too wimpy for the power output of this bike, particularly when hauling around an adult (me). I found that the chain (420) wore enough to need adjustment almost every ride, even with proper lubing. This is/was truly one of the few weak spots of this bike.
Whats the difference between 420 and 41 chain?
#420 will have more strength than the #41 chain because the side plates will be taller. #40 will be the beefiest chain in this class. This will help with thicker sprockets since there is more room between the side plates. #41 will look just like the #420 chain, but will stand shorter.

Are 40 and 420 chain the same?
Difference between 420 chain and 40 chain Both 420 and 40 chains have the same tensile strength and pitch, the only major difference is the width between the inner plates of #40 is larger than #420 by 1/16″.
Is 41 chain the same as 415?
#415 and #415H chain is also known as 1/2"x3/16" chain. #420 chain is the exact same size as #41 chain however it has thicker pins which makes it stronger.
How do I know if my chain is 420?
Go-kart chain numbers take the first letter from the pitch. And the last 1 or 2 digits from the roller width. For example a 420 chain has a pitch of 4/8-inches and a 520 chain has a pitch of 5/8-inches. To start measuring your chain size you need to start at the sprocket.
How do I know my chain size?
To measure the chain size, if you have just the sprocket, use calipers to measure between the teeth. Measure from center to center of where the chain roller would set between the teeth that will give you the pitch. Once you know the pitch you can determine what chain size you would need.

Will a 428 chain fit a 40 sprocket?
The 40B sprockets are an odd-ball width (7.2mm) and you would have to go to 428 chain, which would actually too wide, allowing the chain to wonder side to side.
What is a #40 chain?
#40 roller chain is a 1/2" pitch ANSI B29. 1 industrial duty roller chain that is manufactured with precision components and high-strength carbon steel alloys. Being made to ANSI dimensional standards means that this chain directly interlaces with other brands and interlaces.

What is a 415 chain?
#415 chain is also known as #43, 083, and 1/2" x 3/16" chain. #415 chain has a 1/2" center to center spacing between each pin, a 3/16" spacing between inner links, and is approximately 7/16" wide. Our #415 chain, master links, and half links are available in both heavy-duty and standard-duty versions. Chain Dimensions.
Why use chain guards with straw?
We prefer the aerosol can with a straw so that we can pin-point where we need the lubrication. Chain Guards will help with keeping hair, clothing, and appendages out of harm's way. Also helps with messes since you'll be slinging around chain lube.
Why are chain breakers important?
I mean, you could use an angle grinder but this tool makes life a lot easier. They are essential because you will rarely get chain that is the correct length. Here's our rule of thumb for chain length:

What is a 5 strand chain?
Five strand roller chain is also commonly referred to as quintuple roller chain and is one of the less commonly used types of chain. However, we stock most of the standard sizes of five strand roller chains along with the accompanying connecting links and offset links. View Category.
What is double pitch carrier chain?
Double pitch carrier type chains are also referred to as oversized roller double pitch chains because the roller extending past the sidebars. This creates a chain that is capable of conveying product from one point to the next with the use of the rollers. Chain Size.
What is the tensile strength of a roller chain?
Sizing the right roller chain for your application comes down to a few key factors: Tensile Strength - The tensile strength of a roller chain is the rating that represents the force required for breaking the chain. There are three different tensile strength values; minimum, average, and ultimate.
What are the conditions for roller chains?
Application Conditions - It is important to take a look at certain conditions such as temperature, corrosion, abrasion, and hours in operation . Standard roller chains are manufactured from carbon steel, meaning that their temperature range is limited and they will corrode in abrasive and corrosive applications.
What is a roller chain?
A Roller chain is especially useful in applications that require the transfer of energy to be consistent over a long period of time, or where a shift in direction from linear to rotary is needed, and simply for moving objects from one point to another.
What is the difference between Renthal R1 and 428?
Renthal R1 is a standard (non-o-ring) chain. The primary difference between 420 and 428 is the pitch of the links. A 130 link 428 chain will be longer (and generally speaking, heavier-duty) than a 130 link 420 chain.
Can I upgrade my bike to a 520?
It's probably possible to upgrade it to a 520 , but that's bordering on excessive. My street bike uses a 520 or 530 (depending on what you want) and that puts out 68 HP. IIRC, you can use the rear sprocket from a XT225, you just need to drill out the holes because the XT uses smaller sprocket studs.
