Lepto is passed through the urine of wild animals, so if your Schnauzer is not left off leash in wooded areas w/ lots of wildlife (b/t/w that = big no!) or you have lots of wildlife passing over your property, exposure possibility is next to nil. This vaccine is primarily for hunting and farm dogs who may drink out of a creek, stream, or pond in which an infected animal has very recently urinated in the water. How that fit my house dog who was never off leash outside our fenced yard is beyond me. Lepto is zoonotic, but, if you have a normal immune system, highly unlikely to pass to you. This vet practice whom we'd used for yrs. just wanted to fatten the bottom line. Any time a new vaccine is recommended. Go home and research it first which is what I usually do. I can still tear up about our sweet, feisty Abby. Keep them safe, please.
