Variation ideas

Vanilla yogurt is simple, creamy, and yummy. I don’t think you need to add anything to it. Its simplicity is what makes it special. However, if you want to jazz it up a bit you can try adding some of these ingredients:

Plain yogurt vs. flavored yogurt

In college, I spent a summer teaching in China. My students would grill me for hours about American culture, while I was just as fascinated to learn about theirs. I’ll never forget one conversation talking about the different sights and smells in China: the meat and smoke and oil and noodles. Everything, including the people, carried these smells.

Flavored Yogurt Ingredients & Nutritional Facts

While most 6-oz. containers of flavored yogurt contain around 26 grams of sugar, some brands have up to 34 grams of sugar per serving! That’s more than some 8-oz. energy drinks and slightly less than a 12-oz. can of Coca Cola. Light yogurts typically add low-calorie sweeteners to cut the calories and sugar (12-15 grams per 6 oz. serving).

Honey

The best way to eat yogurt is to add honey or molasses to it. Add a little water to this and whisk until creamy.

Make it Greek-style

If your yogurt has gone too sour, simply dump it in cheesecloth or a muslin cloth, tie up the ends, and hang it up with a bowl underneath to collect the whey.

Vanilla bean

This one is a classic. Add a drop or two of vanilla extract to your plain yogurt and sweeten it with a bit of jam, jelly, preserves, chocolate syrup, honey, agave nectar, molasses, or maple syrup. This is a great replacement for ice-creams and sugary frozen treats.

Fruit

For great tasting homemade, fruit-flavored yogurt, the easiest thing to do is add fresh fruit right before eating it. If fresh fruit is not an option, add frozen fruits. You can also add preserves, jams, apple sauce, and/or jellies. Some of the best fruits to add to plain yogurt are:

With peanut butter

Whisk yogurt with peanut butter in a blender along with fruits like banana, mangos, or berries to make a satisfying protein shake.

Yogurt and coconut oil

Coconut oil has a number of benefits. If you hate the taste of coconut oil, simply warm it up (do not heat it) and add to plain yogurt. Sweeten the mixture with some Stevia and whisk the mixture. This is a great way to consume coconut oil. You can also add toasted coconut shavings to it.

Sugar, spice and all things nice

Some of the best ways to flavor plain old yogurt is with following herbs and spices. (You may want to also sweeten this up with honey, agave nectar, molasses, sugar, or maple syrup).

Has anyone noticed the insane increase in food prices lately?

In Wa state. I can’t believe the prices for beef right now. Don’t get me started on Seafood ether. I live on a few acres and the wife and I are buying a cow or 2 ASAP. Can’t believe the cost has jumped up so much. My wife was reading local restaurants are stopping certain dishes as prices have gotten so out of hand they can’t serve it.

For beginners: NEVER put water on hot oil

I know. I'm stupid. I was frying a second batch of Korean fried chicken late at night in what was only the second time I've ever deep fried something. The oil was heating up way too much after I put a few pieces in (I assume because I forgot to remove the crumbs/leftovers of the first batch from the oil) before it turned black.

Made an adjustment to how I make my regular lunch sandwich and I'm never going back

I tend to eat the same sandwich for lunch because it's cheap, tastes good, and I can get it together in less than 5 minutes. It's just toasted bread (either white Pullman style or seeded) with mayo, tomatoes (seasoned a minute before they go on the sandwich) sliced deli ham, and lettuce.

What's your favourite pig out food?

I'm a miserable turd today. I just want to eat my misery away and pass out in a blissful food coma.

What is the purpose of keeping shrimp tail shells on while cooking?

I watched one of those mindless social media cooking videos and saw them making a shrimp fettuccine Alfredo but the shrimp had the tails on still. Why would anyone eat their pasta having to stop every bite or two to pick out the tail shells?

Unpopular opinion: Making pasta on a board with the "well method" is dumb

Making it in a bowl is so much better. It's faster since you don't have to be careful not to destroy the well and have your eggs spill out. Also you can knead the dough against the bowl which makes it super easy. I'd rather much wash one bowl than deal with the stress and messines of making pasta with the well method.
