We have a boiler for ours, but I don't know if you have to have one. We use an outdoor wood furnace that supplies hot water and heat to radiant baseboards. Most people I know that have seasonal cottages turn the water supply off over winter so pipes don't burst. Issue with the radiant is that it's a closed system.
