Fibrous monolithic ceramics (FMs) consist of a hexagonal arrangement of submillimeter 'cells' of strong polycrystalline ceramic and a network of crack-deflecting weak 'cell boundaries' [1, 2]. These composites are sintered or hot-pressed monolithic ceramics with a distinct fibrous texture.
