However, compounds with donor-π-bridge-acceptor (D-π-A) architecture with phenothiazine acing as a donor and cyanoacryclic acid as the acceptor unit connected via double bond are extensively explored and has attracted significant interest in solar cells technology [ [9], [10], [11], [12] ]. The phenothiazine derivatives based on D-A and D-π-A architecture are explored as fluorescence probes in the living cells showing high photostability and selectivity, and low cytotoxicity [ [13], [14], [15] ]. Among phenothiazine derivatives, compounds with D/A-π-D-A construction where phenothiazine is connected via acetylene linker with donor or/and acceptor units are hardly known [ [16], [17], [18], [19] ]. The ethynylated derivatives of phenothiazine with various electron donating and withdrawing groups at 7-position were tested as fluorescent boronic acid probes [ 16 ]. The character of end-capped groups considerably tuned the optical behavior of PTZ derivatives, the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) drastically impacted the emission maxima by sensitivity towards solvent polarity and the photo-induced electron transfer (PeT) of the probes [ 16 ]. The symmetrically and asymmetrically phenothiazine connected directly via ethynyl spacer with BODIPY were synthesized. The study showed that the acetylene linked phenothiazine functionalized BODIPYs exhibit bathochromic shift as compared to directly linked phenothiazine functionalized BODIPYs and incorporation of acetylene linkage between phenothiazine, and BODIPYs induces coplanarity and results in lower band gap which leads to red-shifted absorption [ 18 ]. R. Dhamodharan reported two phenothiazines of A-π-D-π-A type connected via acetylene linker with 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) containing aldehyde and the dicyanovinyl units to reduce the band-gap. Compounds exhibit solid-state emission in the deep red and NIR regions with quantum efficiency in the range of 0.9 to 8.9% [ 19 ].
