Why would a car vibrate only when accelerating?

The most common reason why a car is shaking or vibrating when accelerating is due to unbalanced wheels or a worn CV joint. It can also be a damaged driveshaft, but could also be caused by engine issues like a misfiring engine. Here is a more detailed list of the most common reasons why a car shakes when accelerating.

What can cause a car to vibrate when you accelerate?

Tires are one of the most common causes of car vibrations. One of the possible issues are out-of-balance tires. Your problems may not be noticeable at slow speeds, but the shaking will intensify as you accelerate to 55-60 miles per hour. The steering wheel, or even the entire car, will start to vibrate.

What causes a car to make noise when accelerating?

Low level of fluid is one of the reasons for causing rattling noise when accelerating. It’s a simple issue with a simple fix, but the consequence could be outright scary. A bad torque converter could be the origin of rattling sound when accelerating at low speed.

Unbalanced Tires Unbalanced tires are a result of uneven wear. There could also be a problem with the tire pressure. Also, uneven tire treads can result in vibrations that will cause shakes during acceleration or turning.

Why does my car shake when I accelerate or slow down?

The most common reason for a car to shake is related to tires. If the tires are out of balance then the steering wheel can shake. This shaking starts at around 50-55 miles per hour (mph). It gets worse around 60 mph but starts to get better at high speeds.

Why does my truck vibrate when I slow down?

When wheel bearings wear out or become damaged due to dirt or debris or lack of proper lubrication, they will cause this type of vibration which is more noticeable usually upon slowing down or when any kind of force is exerted on that particular wheel, for example when making a turn.

How do you fix a driveshaft vibration?

If it's a used driveshaft that is causing the vibration, sometimes an easy fix is to rotate the driveshaft 180 degrees in the differential yoke. This may help improve the balance. Of course, the universal joints and the driveshaft itself need to be closely inspected, looking for any wear or collision damage.

Can a transmission cause your car to shake?

Grinding, Shaking and Other Bad Vibrations An automatic transmission is more subtle in its signals, but they are unmistakable. Transitions into gear and between gears will cause some vibration at first; but then, as the problem persists, gear changes become more jarring and cause shaking.

Can bad spark plugs cause car to shake?

Improperly functioning spark plugs cause an uneven burn of fuel in the engine, resulting in fluctuating RPMs and a louder noise. You might also experience increased vibrations of your vehicle while sitting idle or while traveling at low speeds. These vibrations originate from the engine and can shake the entire car.

Can CV joints cause vibration?

Damaged Inner CV Joints Can Cause Vibration on Acceleration Damaged inner CV joints cause vibrations on acceleration and are very difficult to diagnose because the damage is so inconspicuous. You can only see it once the inner CV joint is removed from the vehicle and cleaned of all grease and debris.

Why do I feel vibrations in my lower abdomen?

A feeling of fluttering or twitching in your abdomen may be a sign your digestive tract is experiencing an allergic reaction to something you ate. It's uncommon, but these feelings can be related to celiac disease, or an abnormal reaction to gluten.

Check your exhaust hangers. Check that the rubber is solid, and the brackets that mount to the car frame are tight. Pull and shake everything to see if it rattles anywhere. I have a frequent problem with the exhaust hanger bracket just below the driverside door. It works itself loose and develops a rattle that sound like something in the door istelf. It is more pronounced under acceleration. The solution was to cut off a small 1" square piece of an old bicycle inner tube, cut a hole in it and place it between the bracket and the car's frame. Its been quiet for about a week now.

What is the problem with rear brake caliper bracket?

The rear brake caliper bracket is prone to seizing the lower slide pin in the bracket. That could promote a braking vibration, but only if you hit the brakes usually.

Can you feel vibrations while under power?

No or very little vibration is felt or heard while under power or at cruise, only during deceleration.

Do rear tires have an impact on acceleration?

Have you moved the rear tires to the front and front to rear to see if the vibration moves? Tires shouldn't have an impact on acceleration or decel. They just change based on your actual speed.

Is vibration the same when applying brakes?

Vibration is the same if I'm applying brake or if I just let off the throttle.

What happens if VC is locked?

If the VC is locked, it is the same as driving with the CDL locked. This will bind the drive train, causing stress on all drive train components. Will change the angle of axles, etc, any small looseness in parts will be magnified into a bigger vibration.

Does the drive angle of the rear U joint change with the movement of the suspension?

So the drive angle of the rear u-joint changes with the movement of the suspension . The benefit of the stock shaft is that the angles at each end just need to be the same. The multi link ensures that loaded or unloaded the angles stay relatively the same.

Can you overgrease drive shafts?

It's possible to overgrease the drive shafts and get vibrations. Just seems strange that it only started happening after the diffs were touched. And even stranger that the problem would go away with a lift, when the opposite is usually true (may all just be coincidence)

Re: Vibration on Deceleration (parasolution)

Check the U- joints in the drive shaft. That usually causes vibration.

Re: Vibration on Deceleration (parasolution)

Did you ever fix this, mine does the same but it is around 2500 rpms, in every gear if I listen for it, but mainly in 4th, it is crazy loud.

Re: Vibration on Deceleration (iseenem240SX)

unless i didnt look at them close enough it seems like the u-joints and not made to be replaced in that driveshaft. please correct me if im wrong. I have replaced everything in the rearend of this car. subframe bushings every control arm bushing springs and shocks and yes even the differential.

Re: Vibration on Deceleration (JOESCHMID26)

They are replaceable. You gotta heat them with a torch and use a punch and hammer. There a pain but they come out.

What causes vibration in car?

Wheel runout may be another cause of car vibration. The term refers to any deviation from a truly circular spin and is measured with a dial indicator. This wheel issue might result in either up and down vibrations or a sideways, wobbly motion in a wheel.

Why do my tires vibrate?

The vibrations might also be the result of uneven tire wear. Inspect the tread on your tires, and if you notice that it’s wearing down more on one side than the other, you should rotate the tires to ensure even tire wear.

What does it mean when your car bounces up and down?

If your car seems to bounce up and down in the front (in FWD vehicles), and you notice vibration and a crackling noise coming from that part, you may be dealing with a worn out or broken constant velocity joint (CV joint). The solution is usually to repair and fit the CV joints or replace the driveshaft entirely. On the other hand, if your car seems to bounce up and down in the rear end (in RWD vehicles), and you notice the vibration intensifies as you slow down from a high speed, you may be dealing with worn out universal joints (U-joints) on the driveshaft. In this case, either the U-joints or the entire driveshaft may need replacement.

What happens if you get out of balance on a tire?

Out of balance tires will wear in a distinctive way, so check whether any flat spots have developed around the tire. Having your tires rebalanced may solve the issue; but, if there is extensive damage, you might have to replace the tire.
