Is there a danger of fire lurking in every glass of water? Water is not flammable and can't catch on fire. This is because it is made of hydrogen, which has been fully oxidized and can't react with oxygen any further. However, the hydrogen and oxygen can fuel and increase a fire when they are separated.
Can water ever catch on fire?

When these two elements combine, they release a great deal of energy in the form of heat and light. Therefore, water is unable to catch fire because it's already been through the process of combustion.
