What does L1 and L2 mean on a motor?
For example: L1 and L2 indicate that the motor voltage may be 240 volts. The T symbol designation refers to the Terminal or Termination, which in this case is a wire lead that is part of the internal motor windings. Some motor applications will require that certain T wire leads be wired together.
Is there an L2 color code for neutral?
No one ever labels anything L2 and neutral. There is nothing other the standard colour code in the NEC that white and green are reserved for grounded and grounding conductors. I think the reason you are seeing L2 for neutral is convention, we've always labeled things L1 and neutral, or L1 and L2.
What wire was connected to L2 on the old motor?
I've enclosed photos of the two motors' wiring diagrams. I am certain that Line (black wire) was connected to L2 on the old motor, as the diagram suggests. Do I move Line to L1 on the new motor?
Does line on L1 make a difference?
New pump's diagram suggests Line on L1 (Note: the text "Neutral Line" confuses me). I understand that it really doesn't make a difference, as long as my Line (in) is the side that is switched (which is is), so the motor is not left "hot" when I toggle the remote on/off switch.

Is L1 or L2 red?
Black is L1 or line one. White is neutral. And red is L2 or line two.
What are L1 and L2 wires?
The incoming circuit wires that provide the power are referred to as the line wires. L1 (line 1) is a red wire and L2 (line 2) is a black wire. Together, they show the motor voltage. Having both an L1 and L2 indicate that the motor voltage may be 240 volts.

Two way switches have a COM terminal as well as L1 and L2 terminals. When L1 is off L2 would be on. When L1 is on L2 would be off.
Are grey and black wires the same?
Black wires are hot wires that run to the electrical outlet from the switch. Red wires are hot wires common in a 240-volt outlet or when a wall switch controls the outlet. Blue and yellow wires are hot wires for ceiling fans and three- or four-way switches. White or gray electrical wires are neutral wires.

What is L1 L2 L3 in electrical?
L1, L2, and L3 coils are live wires with each on their own phase carrying their own phase voltage and phase current. Two phases joining together form one line carrying a common line voltage and line current. L1 and L2 phase voltages create the L1/L2 line voltage. L2 and L3 phase voltages create the L2/L3 line voltage.

I'm wiring a new pump (USQ1072) for 115v operation The old pump's diagram (115v) has Line on L2. New pump's diagram suggests Line on L1 (Note: the text "Neutral Line" confuses me).
Re: Motor wiring - L1 & L2, 115v
You want your "hot" wire on L1 and Neutral on L2 when wiring the new motor. Make sure you operate the voltage selector dial to reflect 115 volts instead of 230 volts.
